Nice truck, how about some engine pics and specs? Trans, gearing, etc.? I'm thinking about picking up an older Ranger and doing a 302 or 351 conversion on it.

THE ENGINE HAS BEEN WORKED OVER A BIT. RUNNING A C-4 W/TRANS=GO SHIFT KIT AND A 8.8 WITH 3.73 GEARS AND POSI. THE LONG BED SEEMS TO HAVE HELPED ON THE TRACTION END. IT'S NOT A HARD CONVERSION AND THE HARDEST PARTS WAS EXHAIST FIT 21/2 IN ALL THE WAT AND REMAKING THE TRANSMISSION SROSSMEMBER TO WORK WITH THE HEADERS. THANKS FOR THE INTEREST.....JON

Good job, Jon. Looks like a factory installation. I was thinking about doing a short bed to shave a few pounds, do you think traction would be a problem? I was planning on traction bars as well, and either 3.55's or 3.73's. Would like to keep it fairly streetable.

CONVERSION

MY COMBINATION DOES USE A BIT OF PREMIUM GAS. AVEREAGE ABOT 12-14. BIT BETTER ON HIGHWAY. DEPENDING ON YOUR NEEDS 3.45 OR 3.55'S WOULD BE YOUR BEST CHOICE. TRACTION BARS ARE A POSITIVE. YOU CAN ALWAYS PUT A COUPLE BAGS OF SAND IN BED WHEN YOU NEED THE EXTRA TRACTION.LOLOLO...IF YOU PLAN ON GOING TO THE STRIP ATALL, USE 2 1/2 OR 3 IN EXHAUST AND PUT SOME RACE REDDY CUT OUTS ON AT HEADER FLANGE.......JON

Thanks Jon, the 93 octane was one of the questions I forgot to ask. Figured you were running a little more than normal compression and cam timing on it. Considering the performance you get, 12-14 isn't bad for a 3 second gain in the quarter compared to my 17-18 mpg.

ranger v-8's

USEING TRW 9.5-1 FLAT TOPS. AFTER MILLING HEADS A BIT WE FIGURE WERE AT ABOUT 10.0-1. SLIGHT PING WITH 89 OCTANE WHEN PULLING ALOAD. 92 WORKS GREAT. DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL GET WHEN WE PUT ON THE POWER HEADS. JON

My '87 is a short bed and I've had 1.54 60' times, 11 flat 1/4 mile times @ 124+mph. But then thats with a pair of 12" slicks on the back. The rear suspension is still stock with the exception of the leaf springs being moved inside the frame rails and Lakewood traction bars. It'll clear the front tires about 3-4" if the track is decent. And yes, I still drive it 12 miles to town every now and then just to quiet the hostiles.

THANKS FOR REPLIES

SOUNDS LIKE A FINE PIECE OF WORK HOTRODFORD87.
351 WAS A THOUGHT , BUT A FRIEND HAD THE 302, SO WE BUILT IT. DON'T THINK WILL COME CLOSE TO YOUR NUMBERS WITH OUR BUDGET.

SHINODA, KEEP US ADVISED HOW YOUR'S IS COMING.

COBRA SPLASH. A 2.3?? WHEN WE DID THE CONVERSION ON MINE I TOOK OUT ALL THE ELECTONICS AND SMOG. STARTED FROM SCRATCH AND JUST PUT IN A DURA II IGNITION AND DISTRIBUTOR.

Hey man that looks sweet, those Cragars look real nice on an gen 1 Ranger. I was thinking of putting them on instead of my AR's. What size are those and are those the regular ones or the reverses?
