Can anyone here give me reliable information on the '84 - '87 351W H.O. engines that were in pickups. They had 4 barrel carbs. and were supposed to have a higher horsepower. Other forums say the heads were a problem and that they didn't have much if any advantage over the heads that would have been on a 2 barrel 351W from that time frame. I'm in the process of replacing a 351W that originally had the old "variable ventura" setup in a '82 F250. Was planning on using a duel plain intake, 4 barrel and and "RV' type cam for lower RPM torque. The truck has had duel exhaust added. I may go with some headers and redo the exhaust as the pipes and glass pack mufflers on it now are getting in bad shape. But my main question after alot of rambling is about the H.O. heads. I have a set and would use them if I knew anything factual about them. I know every one on some forums and Facebook all say get aluminum or GT40, GT40P. I'm just thinking if I have something that will sever me I'd like to use them. Thank You!

The reason the HO didn't have a significant power increase was the choking for the emissions, but with minor mods, the HO heads should be easier to gain horse power out of them.

Thank you for the reply! I've used a set of them not trying to make exceptionally high HP just wanted it to run good which it has. Then I read people saying how bad they are and wonder what I'm missing. I have removed the cat. conv. on the truck and have duel exhaust. So that my have eliminated the choking you talk about. Thanks again!
