I am getting ready to purchase a 1996 Crown Vic LX. The check engine light is on and the two windows on the passenger side (front and rear) are not working. Engine seems to gasp for air when started and on take off until it warms up the its fine. Both windows are making noise when the button is pushed but no window movement. Would this be a good purchase? I will be able to get it under $2000 mayde under $1500. Oh and it has less than 74k miles on it.

windows sounds like possible a window motors binding up but that no biggie to fix sometimes you can take a hammer and hit the inside of the door where the motor sits and get them working again (or replace the motors )but chech the switch first for the easy fix but if the car is in good shape 2k would be good deal

Yes. The windows could be an easy fix. If you hear the motors moaning but nothing's going on, they're probably worn out and need to be replaced. Mine were $50 each at the parts store and took me an hour to swap out both, including disassembly/reassembly of both door panels.

That is an excellent deal the windows are an easy fix the entire motor usually does not have to be changed there are three plastic/nylon bushings inside the motor that deteriorate and that is what need to be replaced you can find them on ebay this part is like $12 for 2 windows if I remember correctly I have done it on my taxis and my lincolns alot cheaper than replacing the entire motor. And For the mileage and price that is good. My Crown vic has 338,318 miles on an original motor and transmission only major work has been the valve seals. Good luck Cindy
