Hello Averyone I Need Help ... I Did Locate The Pulley, Now What's The First Stape How Do I Release Tension On The Belt...and When I Do How Do I Know How Much Tension To Put Back....sorry First Time Doing This.........thanksssss

I'm not sure about the '97. I have an '03 5.4L Expedition. I replaced the alternator last week. I didn't do anything to the tension of the belt. If your belts were loose to begin with, I could understand that. But if they weren't loose before you pulled the alternator out, they should not be loose after. On the '03 the alterernator is a 1 man job and does not require any belt tighten/loosen.

on the tension pully u stick a socket wrench in it with no socket it is square then have the handle fassing to the right and push down it will release the tension on the belt and the just take the belt off the un bolt the alt and do the same after the new alt is on
