My family and I were returning from a day of skiing when the tranny on our 98 EB Expedition decided to commit suicide. My mechanic says the planetaries are trashed and the tranny needs a complete rebuild. The thing shelled out on a down hill grade after a good climb from Silverthorne to the top of the Eisenhouer tunnel (a gain of about 2200' on 4-6% grades- highway speeds). We have not had any trouble with the tranny up to this point, fluids are serviced every 15K miles and there was no slippage, difficulty shifting etc. up to the second that it shelled.

Ideas, input similar experiences?
