First post here so please bear with me.
Anyone know if I can drop the pan without first removing the exhaust pipes underneath? Looks like I should be able to tilt & remove but it's close. Know starter motor has to come out but this is minor compared to the pipes.
Couldn't find a matching thread but again I'm a newbie.
Thanks,
Jim in NH

ps anyone else experience extreme exterior pan corrosion on this car?

The oil pan cannot be done without dropping or removing the catalytic converter. The oil pan rotting out is very common on the 3.0L Vulcan in the salt belt states. My 90 Taurus w/a 3.0L Vulcan was rotting pretty good before it got wrecked. I had a co-worker with a 96 Taurus who had to do an oil pan. He dropped the cat. down a little and was able to remove the pan. Just get a good rust penetrating spray and soak down the nuts holding the cat. pipes to the manifolds ahead of time and you should have very little problem doing the job. Good Luck!!!

Thanks Tbird:
Got the new pan off the net & now I've got time to soak the bolts. Thanks for your input; it is greatly appreciated.
