I apologize if this is a dumb question in advance. lol I've never done more than change my own oil, so I'm obviously not familiar with cars. All I need to do is add transmission fluid to my car. I don't have my manual and when I try to download it on Ford's site, I keep getting an error. I've looked under the hood and I don't see anything labeled transmission fluid, but I'm not even sure where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't feel like taking my car and paying money to a mechanic when it's something this simple. Thanks!

The dipstick is at the LR corner of engine compartment, right behind the throttle body-to-air cleaner tube. The handle is round and may or may not be painted yellow.

The dipstick may be red. By todays standards, yellow means oil and red means transmission. I take it that you know that you are low on fluid because you have checked it, you add automatic transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Please remember to check fluid at normal operating temp and on level surface while engine is running. Make sure you dont overfill or you will end up with problems. Hope this helps

No, Ford sometimes marked service points such as the trans. dipstick yellow. I have never seen a Taurus with a trans dipstick painted red. It is either Yellow or Black.

I did not know that. my transmission dipstick in my 01 is yellow also. I guess this just goes to show how often I check the transmission fluid in my vehicles...I need to work on that
