Just wondering what kind of fuel economy you get from your EF around town and on the highway? The information ive got seems to think about 7.5L/100kms on the highway and 12L for the city? That about right?

Also have you had any problems with it other than the replacement of the Harmonic Balancer recently?

I have an EF XR6 - the best I've had on the highway would be around 8 - 9, and I don't even bother checking around town - could be my driving style though......

As a guide i'm getting 10L to 100km all round with a mix of city and highway driving. But when it's mainly highway driving i can get figures like QuarterPounder.

Yeah the EF Wagon has been a really great car, engine still feels and sounds like the time we took it of the showroom floor, and my car has done 192k.

The usual falcon traits exist like a slight leak around the radiator pipes although abit of aviation gasket will cure that.
A few of the illuminent lights on the ac switch's had to be fixed, but i fixed it my self. The ash tray was abit dodgy from brand new but i re-built it myself :D .

But mechanically i've been impressed even with me driving hard every so often.

Did EFs have headgasket problems? I heard something about the Head bolts being too short or long or something?
And when did Ford go back to Distributer and drop the Dual Runner Intake? Was it EFII or EL?

Gotta love those radiator hose leaks :rolleyes: Was once tightening the clamp on the bottom hose of an EA to try and stop a persistant drip, and I managed to break the blade of the screwdriver:eek:

As I understand it, they went back to the distributor on the ELs.

The dual runner length intake manifold is still fitted, with the EL onwards they replaced the silly looking dual plastic pipework from the airbox to the throttle body with a single larger piece.

If my memory serves me correctly, the "triggers" for the coil packs were in different positions as well. on the EF the trigger was where you would expect the dizzy to live, whereas the EL's had a crank position trigger mounted down the bottom of the motor behind the harmonic balancer (I think they played with both on the EF)

just a question about distributors and coil leads..


On the EF/EL's the distributor cap is up toward the front of the cable, and they have a small electronic coil just a bit further back.

ON the AU. they have the distributor toward the back and it looks near impossible to get to the plugs...

How do you get your hands in there to change the plugs, and where is the coil on the AU?

Okay,

Mine is the very very first EF rolled out of the line bult Sep 1994.
The EF's supposidly had head bolt problems that they can snap. But so far nothing wrong with mine. I've never had a gasket changed and water pump is aye ok. "Touch's wood".
The radiator hoses i think are a minor problem on all fords.

Dual runners are existent on all EF and EL's. IMO the dual pastic piping on the EF's looked good, even though it might not do anything on the performance stakes. :p :p

Coil pack are much more relaible than the good ol dizzy cap setup, but the EF's had a slight firing glitch, ie the engine is not as smooth as the dizzy caps when they were released. But they've solved it when AU's came out.

I believe you must be talking about the spark plug leads being hard to get to, thats the samecase as my EF. The coil pack is hidden under the intake manifold. Since the AU's have a coil pack (where the plugs go into ) there is no ignition coil. I think this is pretty much teh case for AU's.

Well 1st you have to break the 2nd finger on your left hand at the 1st knucle, hold your tongue just right ( no a little to the left) then disjoint your right wrist so that u can touch your elbow on the same arm
Or do what the smart man does :- take it to the mechanic & say make it so;)
