so now that your going to spend the money why not supercharge it. remember if you sell it and buy another car you can pull the blower off and use the blower inself on another car and sell the brackets.you can also make more than 200rwkw with the blower say 240rwkw. What would piss me off would be if you say had 200rwkw a XR6t with some work or worse a Gen 3 with some work would still beat you, only my 2c worth

Good point there EATURBO, even a 200rwkw 5.0L may get beaten by later model XR8, SS and XR6t's. Forced induction is by far the best way to get serious power and on your current setup would produce 240+wkw without any loss in drivability. Defenitely worth looking into.

Yeah but for a Supercharger set up thats worth the insurance premiums is about $12,000 installed for 300rwkw+ As where this top end set up should come in under $5000

the choice of heads and intake etc is all based on the eventual supercharging of the donk anyways. I'll get the good heads intake and cam. then for the 2nd stage I'll get a sportsman block and bolt that up and for the 3rd I'll fit up the blower and intercooler set up. that way before any major power is coming out of it from a blower it has the internals to handle it.

And in the end anyways with just a blower strapped to the side of a AU2 xr8 a XR6T with just a stage 2 kit will still tidy the xr8 up
Grunters Au2 xr8(manual) with a blower ([email protected] ford v's holden show)and 3.7's runs 12.5 on the quarter and the stage 2 kits are around low 12's for the XR6T's

Besides all the above info I just dont have the acess to the sort of cash it takes to do a good supercharger setup at the moment...

so people are coming out and saying "why? youll still get beaten by so and so..."

youll always get beaten by someone (except minge obviously), and im sure sylox isnt doing it so he can go out and whip everyone, he just wants more power

You say that you dont wont to pay high insurance premiums but tell me this, if you spend $5000 on this work are you going to tell the insurance company? if you dont and they find it after a rite off you will loose your insurance, if you dont and the car gets stolen you will loose $5000 worth of mods as they wont know about it and they will only pay market value, and if you do tell them you probably wont get insurance or it will be as high as if you fitted a blower, i still vote for the vortec as i have been in a 302 with a blower and it was like driving a 380 cube windsor

Yes it will be insured

No the premiums arent as much as they would be with a blower

$5000 is a lot less than $12000 which at the moment i cant afford and this way i get a power increase and its part of the long term plan anyway...

And the supercharger is still coming later on down the track when the engine has been built for it.

:wnc: Ok guys its Part shopping time. :wnc:

The Engine budget has increased to $5000 leaving an extra $500 for the just incase's.

Im still thinking CAM / Complete Alloy heads / Matching intake / t/b + the nesseceries like Timing gear.

The computer will be done via a Chiptorque custom chip as this can remove my speed limiter and place my rev limiter higher. THIS IS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF AND IS NOT SOME THING TO COME OUT OF THE BUDGET

To you expirienced (if you dont know then dont say)guys here is the goal

1) VERY streetable Mild idle is ok just as long as it isnt a pig

2) Has to have power down low I want it to get up and go hard when i nail it pretty much

3) Has to have a strong top end But has to maintain a safe rpm

4) Resonable on fuel Fuel makes power yeah i understand that but I dont want some thing thats going to chew a tank (82L :fraz:)every 300kms either as i do a lot of hwy km's as well

5) Cut the 1/4 time to hopefully high 13's or better :fraz:
I ran 15.1 @Willowbank a couple of months ago with a busted air temp sensor and a full tank of fuel(lost that time slip)
But my 2nd best was
[email protected]
Reaction: 0.596
60ft: 2.348
330ft: 6.564
660ft: [email protected]
NOTE: TRACTION WAS NO PROBLEM AT ALL

last dyno run is attached [email protected]'s

Also I have set aside an additional $1500 + what ever I get for my original GT40p heads / manifold / cam / T/b for Driveline mods.

But this will be done after the initail engine work, so the cam has to fine with the stock stall for now...

I'm thinking

1) Shift kit
2) Perhaps 3.7's
3) Torque converter if absolutely essential (not sure how many $$$ I'm looking at there
4) Replace the tail shaft with a pursuit item so i can safely remove the speedlimiter.

Thats about it i think so fire away :wnc:

Thanks for helping out once again guys.

$5k is still going to be pushing it, but I would go for a Trickflow package as it is a proven power maker. Trickflow TW street heads ($2300), stud roller rockers ($6-700), Trickflow TFS1 cam ($400), Trickflow street intake ($1000), Timing chain ($100), Pushrods ($250), Gaskets ($200), 70mm Throttle Body ($650, probably don't need it as you already have a 65mm).

As for driveline, 3.7 gears and shift kit are a good idea, and if you really feel the need to go over 180kph then yeah a driveshaft would be a good start but thats not the main problem. The main reason the autos are speed limited is that the auto overheats in no time going over 180kph.

The trickflow gear is very good and, if you combine it with a mild cam, you most likely find that both power and fuel economy improve.

Sure, when you have you foot against the firewall, you will burn the dinosaur nectar at a great rate. But, the extra torque offered by the new heads (via greater cylinder filling) means that the car can cruise along with smaller throttle openings.

This sounds similar to stuff that I'd like in my car...

One question though:

What exactly is a shift kit (& for autos)? I always thought it was a "wank factor" little red light, which lit up to suggest you change from 1-->2, etc.

Looks like I may be waay off with that assumption
