My dad has an old 1970 ford F100 sport custom 2wd truck with a 302. It is a 3 spd manual on the column, with 4 wheel drums and no power steering. He is getting older and loves this truck. I need to know three things: What will it take to change it to an Automatic transmission? What will it take to put disc brakes on it? And what will it take to put power steering on it? Thanks.

If you can find a doner truck from 1973-1979 that has the parts you need, that is the best way to go. For changing to a auto trans you will need a auto trans with its bellhousing, you will need the steering column with the linkage or a floor shifter. The drive lines will be differant. For the power steering, you can get a stock steering box but you will need to cut the shaft, or replace the column with one from a truck with power steering. You will also need the power steering pump and brackets for the 302. And don't forget the pully for the crankshaft. For the power brakes, you will need a power booster and master cylinder and the spindles and claipers.

I agree with bertha66 except for one small detail.

If I were in your shoes, I'd stick to the 67-72 models since they are basically the same with primarily cosmetic differences.

I've tried to match some things to my 72 F-250 and have run into problems when searching years outside the 67-72 date range.
