This summer not only do I plan on taking my car out to the drag strip, but I also plan on attending an SCCA meeting for a day of auto-crossing. It should be fun, there is a Integra Type-R out there that wants us local Probes to challenge him, so I may give it a shot, although I already know who'll win that one.. :(

Actually, I may have a shot at it, I have alot more torque then the Type-R does and that really helps you pull out of the corners alot quicker.

Anyone else plan on auto-crossing this summer?

I have modded my cars engine and suspension, so why not race it, don't want to waste it.

I'm not auto crossing my car. 119,000mi on the engine, needs new struts, and I think a motor mount. But, I am going to watch others this spring and summer.

Autocrossing is a type of racing where they setup cones in a large parking lot, or have a dedicated track for the purpose, but you have to make laps as fast as you can or go through the coarse as quickly as possible. It really helps you learn your vehicle's handling, and allows you to see how well the modifications you have made actually apply in a race situation.

Try not to knock over the cones or run off the track, try to maintain traction around corners.. etc, etc, looks like it's going to be alot of fun!

I'll be autocrossing my 95 GT in G Stock in the New England Region, SCCA.

Only mods are Tokico Illumina's, BFG R-1 245/45-16 D.O.T. competetion tires, Carbotech front brake pads, and alignment. Pretty much all I can do in Stock except installing the smaller SE front sway bar.

Once I wear out the BFG's (soon!), I'm going to switch to Kuhmo 245/45 front, 225/50 rear.

Not looking to be too competetive nationally, esp. with my lack of experience. A look at the results from the recent SCCA National Tour events show almost all Type R's and the occasional BMW. And, can you spell WRX? Locally at this point it looks like I may be the only regular GS driver.

Good luck out there, shiny side up! Lets get this forum going...seems the Miata/Neon/StreetMod crowds are more active Autox-wise on the 'net. Lets show 'em the Probe/MX6 isn't ready for retirement just yet.

did it once and had the time of my life eventhough i managed to get lost and miss on unimportant cone on both runs which disqualified me... planning on doing it again, anyone know any good tire pressures to run for a stock suspension to get the nasty understeer out??

oh yeah... my "unofficial" time was pretty much equal with a teg type r dispite my car being an AXT so i was quite happy

Last year I finished 4th overall in points in the IOWA region. It is a blast, this year I have added alot of mods and a new set of slicks,so it will be a whole different ballgame(look out Mustangs) By the way my car has over 150,000 miles on it,don't be scared of the miles, PROBES love it anyway they can get it!!!:wink2:

i auto-x my car every chance i get. i hold cards with both socal regions and i've been a little lax in getting out to events, mainly because of regional probe meets and my club's meets. :)

anyhow, it's really fun. you'd like it, even if your car is still stock.

just ask tony.

Yeah.. it's a blast even if it's bone stock.. my car is fun to drive on the track. Of course riding in a Modded car with a good driver is pretty fun too. :D

The entire time I raced mine, it had no bolt-ons at all. I was a blast, an MX-6 & I fought over GS & bascially crushed everyone else (poor Camaro got sooo frustrated :D ).

Can't wait to get out again---BTW SCPOC'ers, looks like the 8th is Cal Club's next, and 28th is SD's next. I may be out there again (talking my sister into our madness).

El Toro on Sunday. GS is group 1, STS is group 3 (works 1). OH, and DSP is group 5...

Looks like I'm dragging a whole crowd: my PGT, the "new" PSE, a 3000GT turbo, an Escort ZX-2 & maybe a Contour SE...

Gotta love being an instigator :D

OK, so plans from my last post didn't work out, but we got to the San Diego event. Unfortunately, my car is still sitting in the body shop with the paint drying...so I borrowed a ride in a 3000GT VR4.

Pretty fun car, though I couldn't get a handle on the turbo lag & AWD/AW-Steering & was 7-seconds off the AS pace. I miss the stable PGT platform (and my race tires).

The other cars I dragged along were a ZX2, a base Contour, & a PSE. All did well, learned a lot & are now hooked for life.

The PSE only got two runs, turns out the previous owner let the battery go dry & caused electrical & heating problems; we did get that solved so it drove home & seems perfectly happy now.

I'll post pictures when they're developed (no digital cameras available).

Impatiently waiting for the next event...
