Will it fit? I like the look of the XR grill as it sits back further and is a bit bigger

short answer is no.

it's a different shape. and needs the xr front bar.

my brother tried to fit his fairmont grill into his xr bar when he got it. hense i know it is a no go.

Yes it will fit but you have to modify the outer casing of the grille - We had a Futura with an XR grille at work.

Can be done if you have patience.

what about where it slots into the bumper... the xr one sits further back?

I can't remember the exact way they did it, but I believe they used the lower half of the futura outer casing with the xr grille and xr top casing and it held in place - Just! but looked good. I'll have to ask the panel shop guys.
