So far on my EF 6 Auto ive put crow stage II cam, XR police series computer, genie headers, 2.5" exhaust, EL plumbing, t series snorkel & cold air ram from the lower bumper etc, etc etc, goes great does 0-100 6.9 -7.0 sec.

Ide love a 5.6l TS50 but cant afford one.

Has anyone had experience in playing with the throttle body on the 6 ?. For instance, would the 65mm 5.0l V8 fit, what about the Tickford 70mm ? what about the computer side with the plug and calibration etc ?. I dont know what the diameter of the 6 cyl one is, but would a bigger throat make a difference ?.

Any answers would be appreciated - thanks - Frank.

They look fairly big? Does the tickford xr6 have any different? You can check I guess by fitting a vacuum guage in manifold behind throttle body and at full throttle there should be very little vacuum.
The trouble with real big t/bodys is that it makes it hard to drive down low.One touch of the throttle and you are well on your way,I guess thats why the new 5.6 W has a cam type system for throttle, so it opens progresivly slow at light throttle...good engineering...

The software on the police series ECU on the EF XR6 as far as I know is;
* Rev limiter increased to 5950 rpm before
fuel cut off. (Stnd is @ 5500 rpm
* Speed limiter either raised to higher speed or removed (car has sustained just over 200kph but not game to go further - just in case (that tailshaft thing))
* Aggressive change pattern with VERY POSITIVE engaging of the clutches to eliminate flare with high rpm upchange.

But seriously, the 4 litre has the famous twin scroll intake manifold, so surely a larger throttle body could only help.

Someone says the problem isn't a small throttle body, but a too small pommy MAP(Maximum Air Pressure) sensor. Anyway - please check in.

where did you get the XR police computer from and is it just a matter of changing over the computer without any wiring changes?

How much do they cost?

I have a EF II Fairmont (6 cylinder)

No inlet air go's through m.a.p sensor,it measures vacuum etc..
You are not confused with m.a.f[mass air] on the V8 that is between aircleaner and throttle body.They are usually smaller than t/body..

kewl.. the computer sounds great. but what is the twin scroll intake manifold??
hmmm i'd love to have one.
But my car is a Manual.. oh well.
guess i'll save for a aftermarket chip.

Thanks for the correction. Your right, i was thinking of the MAF. And yes it's not on the 6 because it uses an MAP which takes a reading from elsewhere.

The computer was bought on exchange from Metro Ford in Brisbane, it was pure luck I got this one. It could have been a standard XR computer. Cost exchange was $420

But none of this answers the question.

Will the larger V8 throttle body fit the 6 ?
Would it make a difference ?

PS. Black S. If you have an EF, EL right thru to AU they all have the twin scroll inlet manifold.

I rang Herrod Motor Sport and asked them the same question about a larger throttle body. The guy told me the throttle body was plenty adequate, he said the mods they do at Herrods produce 14 sec 1/4 mile times.

They reccomend the following -
a, Exhaust (Headers/extractors + 2.5" system)
b, Cam (eg, crow satage II)
c, Spots air cleaner (K & N etc)
d, For EF, upgrade to EL plumbing (air tubes)
e, Cold air ram into air box & XR snorkel
(you can get the Tickford for looks)
f, Dyno tune & Unichip enhancement ($1200)

They didn't reccomend head work.

I would be interested to hear from anyone thats actualy done these mods including the unichip.

I estimate flywheel power with the above done to be around 205kw to as much as 220kw

And the New AV engine sounds better, 180KW DOHC 24 valve,and a turbo option, suck eggs Holden enjoy your push rods.

Hmm those mods sounds great.
But I'd love to see a car with those mods in action..
How about you?? got the plans for the rest of those mods??

Hi ya! havent had a reply on an earlier question I posted but it soundz like you have already done it so hope you can help.

Have done all the mods you have to an EL XR6 and its in an EB2. I havent got the car dyoned yet as first attempt to run new motor in the bores got glazed so rings didnt set. So its back getting re-done and I expect it back tomorro. I still have original EB2 ECU in place! Do they recommend that you upgrade to an XR6, police issue, or aftermarket chip to get the most out of these mods?????
