I brought a new black BA XR6 Ute. In the sunlight there are a lot of light scratches and swirls in the paint. I took it back to where I brought it and they said this is normal. Is it normal? Or is it a cover up, it also has paint protection on it (does this stuff work)
Thanks for your help

As far as I'm aware its normal. I read somewhere that imperfections in the body work in the area's where its metal, is a common problem. Black paint only highlights the problem.

I have a black au and it has swirl marks all over. We have 2 fleet BA wagons which are both black and you can see the swirl marks in it.

It does take the shine of buying a new car. Especially if its black

I may be wrong anyway.

Chris, I have had 3 black utes, 2 AUs and currently the BA. The 2 AUs seem to be worse then the BA, but it still has swirls in it when you look hard enough. I have had the paint protection before and considered it a waste of money. That's only my opinion though.

Yep black is the sweetest colour but it is a major hassle to keep nice. Light swirls can be buffed out though but the will come back fairly quickly.

Just make sure when you wash it and dry it you dont use circular motions with the sponge etc. That will help to keep the marks to a minimum.

perfectly normal I'm afraid.....I wash mine every week, with a mitt, and go over it once every three months to remove swirls, does the trick, and looks good for most of the three months......bit of work, but worth every effort.

^^^what he said^^^

In the end it will either drive you nuts or you learn to enjoy washing your car. I will say that I hate going a week without washing mine and love how it looks when it is clean. Only thing is that you have to do it perfectly and spend a heap of time doing it or it wont look any good.

Of course, when it rains you should have a spare car to take cause black cars hate rain! :s6:

Washing it is not a problem; it had these scratches from the day I brought it. Can u get the scratches out without destroying the paint protection or should I forget about it and wax it?
Thanks

XR8 Utey u should have put your UHF Aerial on teh opposite side so it was inline with the Radio Aerial and you should have put your mobile phone aerial on the middle of the back window! This would only make it look MORE awesome, but otherwise its sweet.

Also on the black paint - ive seen brand new BA's with buff marks before they even arrive at the dealer, Fords paint facilities aren't as good as those you see the euro cars being painted in, some black cars are very well finished off, whereas i think the Falcons are a little bit dry.
