Hey everyone, blown a diff, long story short, smashed one rim and popped one tyre on the left side of the diff after hitting them very hard into gutters, the past has caught up to me, now every time I turn left and only left I get a slip (engine revs then go up) and clunk, it wasn’t as bad before but now its impossible to drive with. Heres a couple of questions I got to ask.

1.Can I put in a ED falcon diff (3.08/3.23) and use the Speedo sender from the 4speed falcons trans on my 3 speed trans????
2.I heard that 3speed autos and 4 speed autos have the same 1st 2nd 3rd gear ratios but then just have a 4th and over drive. Is this right???
3.If this is right then what engine revs will the car be at 60km/hr and at 100km/hr in 3rd gear with these ratios (3.08/3.23)???

The reason I want an ED diff is because it has 28spline axles and after im doing a 5speed conversion, with a 5 speed and ED diff I can put a 3.7 locker in… Fun!!!!

Any help greatly appreciated

The 3.23 will rev far too high at 100km/h, something way over 3000rpm. I'd go a 3.08, that should be a fairly happy medium...

Yes the 3 and 4 spd autos had the same 1st 2nd and 3rd gear ratios, but they compensated for this with the diff ratio.

I had the 4 speed workin as a 3 speed recently with a 3.08 diff and it was already annoying the hell outta me, not to mention what it'd be like with a 3.23 or higher. If the 5 speed conversion is coming very soon then get the 3.08 and deal with it until you get the manual but if it's a long way down the track it might be worth savin your engine and tranny and gettin a 2.77, then gettin the diff of your choice....

Over xmas, my trans dropped into limp home mode, and I had to drive 300km in 3rd with a 3.23 diff. It was revving at3300rpm at 120 km/h, but it did sound good.

did you notice the engine temp rise dramatically while it was in limp home mode?

like,.. well over half temp

i cant even get it to rise that high when i pull the shifter into 3rd, its strange

perhaps it wouldnt with having the thermo fans??

oh yeah got to love the 2.77 biggest POS ever made, same with the 3 speed, ive now taken it to over 12 places, surprisingly i made it to all 12, 5 say diff, 4 say trans, 2 say F**k knows its a ford thats the problem haha!!! pull out a wod of 100 dollar bills and start fanning my face shit its hot oh well better be going home, the look of oh shit i put my foot in it.... (something you must love when its not you), 1 is going to get back to me tomorrow.

so i dont know what to do, im going to get the diff oil changed, trans serviced and see what happens, then im going to buy a diff or a 5 speed soon, one of the two. but in time i still need this fixed to be able to get to work!!! i think i have the worst luck in the world sometimes.

slipping and a clunk sounds like a gearbox dude.
A diff is raw gearing so it's either gonna go bang and go nowhere or make a hell of a lot of noise.
I'd go the ED 3.27 LSD Thats what I got and I love it.

Well, it did get hot climbing the South Eastern Freeway at 120 fully loaded in 41 deg heat, the temp gauge went almost to the top of the normal mark, and it stayed there for a bit, but at 110 it dropped down to half.
