Fuel saver feature

I am looking to buy a 2003 Expedition Eddie Bauer. I havn't seen it yet but the guy who owns it says it has a fuel saving feature that shuts down 4 cylinders when cruising on Freeways. I have never seen this feature mentioned in any reports that I have read. Does anyone know if this feature exists, what's it's correct description and what are the pro's and cons. I will be using the vehicle primarily for trailer towing. How does that affect this feature.

My wife's 2005 Expedition as well as her 2003 Expedition did not have any such feature. I have only heard of such a feature on experimental vehicles. Her 2005 does however have a feature that is similar. It has 3 intake valves per cyl. It is supposed to use 1,2,or 3 of them depending on the particular need at the time. For example; when you pass a truck, it should use 3. When you are cruising the freeway, it should use 1. It is all computer-controlled, and therefore is also effective when towing. The transmission has the towing feature which basically turns off the Overdrive. Hope this helps.

I have heard of this feature on the Dodge Charger, but not on any Ford vehicles. Unless you find something different, don't buy it for that unknown feature, and you won't be disappointed. I purchased mine on ebay, 2003 Eddie Bauer, white w/ factory dvd, captains chairs and moon roof. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
