Hi,

I figured if I want serious bang for the bucks stuff I better start saving up for a set of modified camshafts.

So far I'm only aware of three brands. Wade cams, Crow Cams and Crane Cams. Are there anymore?

Has anyone here had experience with any of these and can gimme some good and bad points for camshaft mods?

TIA

Are the DJR cams available to BA XR8 owners now?

If so what sort of figures are we looking at in terms of getting one of these under our bonnet and expected kw gains?

I need to know how many pints I have to start sacrificing on the weekends :eek:/

Crane cams has a number of regrind profiles for the dohc fords. They begin with a mild 209/454 that has stock idle quality...On to 217/474 they have a slight lope but cause no problems with drivability (At least with US spec ecu's)
My second dohc 5.4 made 426 rwhp and revved right to 7100 with these cams. From there i have some really wild stuff (Not street friendly). I can provide more info if you like..

Spent many months sorting out camshafts for the DJR engine,my biggest hurdle is idle quality and hunting
By hunting, do you mean gear shift hunting that is evident sometimes in auto boxes?

Your all missing the point, you cant fit bigger bump sticks until you can change the rev limiter & if you could & you would need to be very chummy with a tech from FPV to get that done then 2 things will happen 1- you will void the warranty & 2- with the questionable rods that are in the aussie mod engines it will hand grenade.

Crane cams will set you back about $1200US (about $1600A+ FREIGHT) & they have a number of different grinds available, bit better than $4000+ from herrods & they are only Crow cams anyway, Reed cams are working on a series of billet grinds for the boss & will be compareable with Crane.

I rang cranecams here in melb and they said they haven't got anything at the moment. I have never heard of Reed cams.

All I want is a set of mild cams (slightly lumpy). Ill wait a few months and see what else comes out. Before I fork out any $$$ I'd have to see/listen to the results first.

Rang Crow...they said "speak to Herrod"...

Spoke to Herrod. DJR cams are not available to non DJR cars. Fair enough.
But they are working on another set of cams for the BOSS260.

Won't be cheap, especially when a chip needs to be fitted also.

Soon?!?!?! Start it now!!!
The XR6T has taken too much R&D time off other shops... not fair.
If we are to tackle the LS1, and soon to be LS2, boys we'll need lots of R&D!!)

Keep us informed with any developments please.

Crane cams are regrinds on your cores. The offer a mild grind 209/.454 and a 217/474 grind. The 209 idles like stock and causes no drivability problems. I use them for supercharged engines. The 217 idles a bit lumpy and makes good power in a 5.4 to 68-6900 I made 426 rwhp with that grind. Crane grinds the base circle dia. to work with a .080'' lash cap to make up the differance. From there.....My latest 5.4 makes peak power(500rwhp) at 7300 and runs to 8000...It does not idle very well. Also...Here is a link regarding a "How to" i wrote.

BOSS 330. Are you the same as BA330Ci?

I'm no expert when it comes to engine talk. All I want is someone to plonk 4 rods in...make it sound good and hammer in the streets.

Oh...at reasonable costs of course.

Perhaps a few of you yanks can come down here? :eek:P
