Anyone else owned a Cosworth.(Spending all my time answering threads.)What type and comments.I'll post mine again even tho it's in the other thread.
1988 Sierra Sapphire 2wd.Chipped with 15psi boost.Exhaust on it when purchased 4inch front pipe from turbo to 3inch strait big bore.I changed this later due to NOISE!!!! level to a twin 2.5 inch system similar to oringinal that reduced to 3 inch single outlet but kept 4 inch front pipe.Other than Cosworth's Porche's etc not many cars were as quick.I never tested top speed but me thinks 250 kph should have been no prob.I guess today there are many cars as quick as that.

I thought 250km was stock in them? Any way my old boss had the RS hatch even though someone thought it was an RS500. I checked the numbers and it was just the "slow" one. Apperently it was quick until they complienced it. Have seen a couple of cossies her as well.

240kph was stock.I think it was almost gauranteed that they would do at least 240k's. As i never tested it out i can only guess at 250k.Prob do much more.I nearly traded mine on an EVO 2 Cosworth the last of them with 4x4, leather Recaro's ,mine was velour Recaro still nice, the evo2 had air con as well but too pricey.I'll post a pic of mine.

First up DK there are about a dozen Cosworths that I know of in Australia so srape enough cash up and you are in with chance. Second the Cosworths are RWD based so the running gear would be more at home in a cortina or better still an escort.

The Sierra Cosworth was offered for sale new in New Zealand but they were real expensive.Over $100,000 i think back in late 80's so only the BMW Porche etc crowd could afford them.Meanwhile back in England they became the most stolen car and no cop cars could catch the culprits.I think the cops in the worst affected areas even got kitted out with a couple of Cossie's to try and catch them.Me thinks there may have been fights over who got to drive em.All this meant insurance premiums for cossie's went way through the roof and right over the top.Everyone decided to quit them and the price plummeted because of the insurance and the good chance of theft.New Zealand importers picked up on this and a whole heap of used Cosworth's were imported to NZ. Awesome car for good price. They are getting on now but you can prob get a 4x4 model here for between $12000 or $25000 depending on mileage and condition.I think Ford England even underwrote the Insurance to hold the cost so the price for them came back up.

you can sneak a car into the country...it's called bits and pieces. I do it all the time. as long as the car is over 12 months old, and has been used for 12 months it is considered second hand. no tax payable, only duty and associated costs like customs clearance, paperwork etc. bring it in as personal effects, quarantine will have a look to make sure it is dirt free no oil, petrol or bugs, spiders etc. you can have your car out of the container inspected and take it home the same day.

HOWEVER.......IF you wish to bring a new car into the country it will cost you nothing, zilch nil, blat, fffttt, kaput.
there is a loophole, that anyone can follow.
anyone interested.

that means no tax, no duty, only paperwork. which equates to about $300. A brand new sierra not bad.

your's are probably the same methods I use. legal but good loopholes. once the customs guy's get to know you after importing more than once, cause it's normally the same guy's that see you each time. They get a bit more relaxed and open up. I've done it probably close to 50-70 times now and each time they tell you a little bit more. it's at the stage now where I'm on a first name basis over the phone, and any incidental cost is usually fixed with a carton of toohey's.

ya gotta love the govenment

hiya guys, i'm new here and from the uk, the sierre rs cosworth both the 2rwd and the 4x4's are still an expensive car, you can pick up good examples for between £3,000 and £15,000, thats a hell of alot of money for a car made and registered in 1988 when you think the retail on them back then was close to £18,000, there are a hell of alot of these carsabout in the uk and ireland mainly owned by RS fanatics and there are quite a few that are modified with figures of 450bhp plus with a top speed of anything from 145mph to a known 185mph with some real money involved for mods regulally hitting the 'performance ford' magzine's over here, i'm looking at buying another but am waiting for some cash to come through...
