A company that aims to stop Australia in its tracks has just won its fourth AAAA Manufacturer of the Year award, the most important award made to local producers of automotive components and accessories.
Disc Brakes Australia, the country’s only specialist manufacturer of disc brake rotors, has won the award in 1992, 1995, 1998 and now in 2001. The Manufacturer of the Year is chosen by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association, on behalf of its 800 member companies, for excellence in manufacturing. It is judged on research and development, innovation, manufacturing quality, productivity, training, service and product support.
In its history, contenders for the award have included Bendix Mintex, Monroe and Robert Bosch Australia.
“To win the top award in our industry for the fourth time in nine years is a reflection of the dedication and single-minded focus on quality that every one of our 48-member staff puts in, and I thank them all sincerely for such a tremendous effort, especially given that we’ve been so busy,” said DBA’s managing director, Phillip Joseph. “The standards set by Australian component makers are exceptionally high and winning this award is testimony to great products and a great team effort.”
At its plant in Silverwater, in Sydney’s west, DBA manufactures brake rotors for passenger cars, commercial and four-wheel-drive vehicles. Its acclaimed Longlife Gold cross-drilled and slotted disc has itself won an AAAA award for Best New Aftermarket Product.
DBA’s extensive research and development has led to brakes that comprehensively out-perform other after-market and original equipment brakes while being highly price-competitive with both. As well as having the biggest range of disc brake rotors in Australia, DBA exports to overseas markets including the United States, the Middle East, South Africa, South Korea and Japan.
“Being recognised as the best manufacturer in the automotive components and accessories market is tremendously gratifying, and a testament to the quality of our products,” Mr Joseph said.
