Article by AutoGuide.comFord is delaying the delivery of some new GT supercars thanks to supplier struggles and homologation issues as the company works to ramp up production.
Earlier this week, letters left Dearborn destined for soon-to-be GT owners apologizing for the delay, “The craftsmanship required to build these vehicles for global markets has required that we adjust our original timing projections.”
Bearing the signatures of Ford Performance boss Dave Pericak and global marketing manager Henry Ford III, the company is promising to update customers shortly on their projected three-month delivery window within the week. However, according to Automotive News, Ford isn’t interested in talking about how long the delay is expected to last.
Multimatic began building the GT in December at company HQ in Markham, Ontario and has so far delivered roughly 50 examples of the $450,000 piece of machinery. Once ramp-up is complete Multimatic is expected to churn out one car per day until reaching Ford’s 250 car annual production limit.
Ford has prioritized high-profile deliveries and nepotism, with comedian Jay Leno, executive chairman Bill Ford, fired CEO Mark Fields and legendary engine builder Jack Roush all getting their cars recently.
