Hey guys,

I have run out of cheap performance mods and the next line of these types of mods will be the 220kw gear someone is (kindly) trying to source for me.

So next logical step to me seems to be doing up the diff. Now, I have been trying to read every post that mentions 'diff' but the prices some people have paid vary quite a lot.

What I am asking is how much can I (realistly) be looking at to change my current 3.23 single spinner to a 3.45 LSD centre? I was going to get a 3.7 but I haven't got enough power yet and it is easier to source a 3.45 because they came standard with many different Falcons anyway.

Thanks for the help guys. It is just hard to find out how much I really need to have to get a decent diff because $200 sounds too good to be true to me. lol

about 350 for gears(installed), and 500 odd for a lsd.

i'd suggets if you are planning on modding, later on , go the 3.7's now, they are easily found as well, i found a set in a week, you can get them from old cortina's fitted with the borg warner, or some aussie skyline/pintara's (r31)
ring around a few diff shops in the area.

I saw someone get ripped tro shreds for suggesting putting a 3.7 in a falcon...

People said it would make the car go past its 'usefull' rev range too fast? And that it will feel 'squirier' but have no top end? is that right?
They then gave a example of a big block Fairlane that ran 13's with some real low gears (2.5 or some shit, out of some big (stock) american cruiser) And when a 3.9(/4.11 cant remember) was put in it would only manage 14-15's.

I thought it would get it into the optimum range faster, although passing through it faster, and then into the next gear and back into the range...

Or is it car dependant? Will a ~150kw falcon be better off with 2.7, 3.45, 3.7, or higher?

A new diff was on the list, for my now decomissioned turbo plans :BW: , but got conflicting information

Will be on the high list for my new car, depending on recomenations

3.9 for auto is ideal,

and 3.7 for manuals have been used in the xr8 mobs for years and years.

best results with a manual i have seen run 3.7's

my own car has them they allow you to cross the line on the quater in 4th doing 5400 or so rpm, right ware ya want it for a moddified i6/5lt.

cheers.joe.

I'd say the high times are from a lack of traction caused by the shorter gears, not the fact it was running out of legs at the end of the strip.

My mechanic has a 460 with a 3.9 geared 9" and its well into the 12's.

I had 4.11s in my near-stock EA S and it was pretty sweet for blowing people off at the lights, but no good for racing on the motorway. You max out at around 160.
