G'day all, I neeed some help on replacing the door hinge pins on my EL. I have figured out how to remove the door, but now I need to know how to remove the pin. It seems that the pin is flattened on the bottom to prevent it from rising up thro' the hinge. My questions are:

What is the best method for removing the old pin, taking into account that the bottom of the pin has to be chiseled off in some way, and, once the pin is replacede, what is the best method for flattening the bottom end. There is not much room to swing a hammer, and I am concerened that I will remove a lot of paint before I am done.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted

may i ask why? complete hinges from ford are cheap

if its only door sag you're dealing and you already have the door off with just loosen the hinges and tap them up slightly..or you can open the door and lift the door up with your jack and a peice of wood...

I am trying to deal with a worn hinge pin, and I am trying not to remove the whole hinge, as it will mean squaring up the door again, which, from past experiences, is a pain in the bum, particularly fore and aft movements. I don't have the door off yet, but I went to a wreckers today, and had a practice there to see how easy it was. The main problem was that the bolt that holds the door onto the pin creats a raised dimple in the pin, and this made the door very hard to lift off the pin. It does actualy seem that I may have to take both the hinges off anyway, in order to replace the one (top) hinge or pin, as I will have to take a hammer to the pin in order to remove it. It may be just as easy in the long run to simply replace the whole hinge and hang the expense! If I do that, at least I will have a spare hinge, complete with good pin.
Isn't owning a car just fun!!

I didnt know you could buy the pins, its not that hard to replace hinges, just scribe a line around the old one and take it off and line the new one up it should be pretty close, Ive never had any trouble pulling the doors off sometimes they are a bit stiff but a firm jerk in the right place and they come straight off

Yeh me either! I usually just get a good hinge off a shell and replace the lot.
What did ford want for the pins, out of curiosity?

I Just replaced the bushes in the back doors of my NA, there sortof a carbon fibrey / soft metal bush that just slips over the pins, then you carefully tap the door back onto the pin....wooohlaaa....no slop in the doors and perfect alignment...and cheap too!! get them via ford spare parts, should also fit EF's cos there the same hinge i think
