Hi, I recently acquired a 1997 Grand Marquis (30k mi.) and am very happy with it (previously only owned Caprices) and it's performance is awsome! Anyway, it has a single exit exhaust system on it and I was looking under there and seems like it would be pretty easy to get a dual exhaust off a simular year Crown Vic LX (maybe from a boneyard?) and install it on my Marquis. From what I've read this conversion would be worth 20 more horses. If anyone has done this, or have any advise on this, pros or cons, I would appriciate any help anyone could give. Thanks!

Ey i say go for it man ,I also converted my 97 marquis from a single exhaust to a dual exhaust.If u decide to convert urs in too a dual exhaust go with the flowmaster muffler 40 series.I have those on my car and it sounds tough!!

Hey MarquisSS, where did you get your exhaust pipes from? And did you only replace the section behind the cats? Was it pretty easy to do? Sorry about all the q's but I want to get as much info as possible before jumping into this. Thanks again dude!

Dual exhaust was an option on the Marquis's. The factory system used an H-pipe that bolts directly to your existing converters. From there the dual mufflers and tail-pipe mounting points are all there, if it had duals or not. You will need the appropriate hangers and brackets for the driver's side exhaust. (Since the passenger side is the same on both single and dual cars all those hangers are already there.) All the parts are identical between the Crown Vic, and the Grand Marquis....so parts are pretty easy to get. Any exhaust shop can do it easy enough....the only question might be if you have strict emission laws where you live, they may not want to change from stock.

After-market mufflers will give you a much better sound over stock, and flow better too. I went with DynoMax Super Turbos, and mine sounds like a Mustang GT at idle, with a very sweet tone as you accelerate. The choice in mufflers really comes down to personal preference.....sound, price, warranty, etc.
My custom side-exitting system ran me about $325 total.
