Howdy Folks

I hope somebody can help me.

I was out driving my mates EB XR6 auto and the ABs light came on. At the time I thought nothing of it because it had been doing that off and on for a couple of days but about a minute later the auto dropped back to 3rd gear and stayed there. I tried comming to a complete stop and then accelerating again, I tried moving the tbar but it still stayed in third . All fluids were OK, temp had not yet reached normal running temp. After I drove back to my mates place we tried the car again about an hour later and every thing was back to normal.

Is the transmission stuffed or has it got something to do with the ABS light.

Any info would be great thanks

sounds like its gone into limp home
mode, take it to your nearest ford dealer to reset it.

Normally If The Tranny Heats Up To Much, Or Low On Fuel It Can Do This.
Some Times Its As Easy As Letting The Tranny Cool Down Or Just Letting The Car Sit With The Ignition Off For A Minute

I would be more concerned about the ABS light than the auto !!

Anyway, is the alternator overcharging?, as this will throw the auto into limp mode when the car is 'cold', and the ABS probably wouldn't like it, either...

probably wrong but.....
One thing that will send the tranny into limp mode is lack of power to the TCU. The fact you have an intermittant ABS fault leads me to the same point.

Check ALL your battery connections are spotless and connected.
My eb had the same fault...sudden limp mode with no warning. Replaced all battery connectors andit fixed it.

Which is what I will need to do with my EB! Whenever I put the high-beams on, it goes into LHM. This has been happening for about a week now, and I've traced it back to putting on the high beams So I drive with low beams at night for now... I'm just waiting for my mechanic to get back from his fishing trip, the bugger.

Quick hint for limp-home-mode fixage when it does it on the road:
1) Find a straight piece of the road with no traffic
2) Put into N
3) Turn off car
4) Turn on car
5) Rev to about 1500rpm
6) Put into D

That's what'd fix mine... until I put the damn high beams on again

Thanks for the info guys, the car is at the doc's now. I'll let you know the outcome when I find out
