I am about to buy an new intake manifold for my ED XR8. I am looking at either the Edelbrock or Trickflow idle-5500rpm manifolds. I know plenty of people with the Edelbrock manifold but no one with the Trickflow. The Edelbrock flows around 220cfm and the Trickflow around 245cfm. The trickflow is also cheaper. Has anyone used the trickflow and how did you find it. Surely the higher cfm rating and lower cost makes this a better option.

Thanks for any help.

What's the rest of your combination?

While the Trickflow may flow more that doesn't mean your car will make more power with it because extra flow capacity often equals lower air velocity and that can mean less power. In most tests I've seen on milder 302s the Edelbrock makes better all around power and torque than the Trick Flow unit. The differences aren't huge though so if you're saving significantly by buying the TF manifold by all means go for it.

Don't expect huge gains though if you have stock heads and plan on leaving them on.

I have a fresh bottom end, slightly ported gt40p heads, crow cam and 1.7 roller rockers; with 24lb injectors, 70mm throttle body and 77mm MAF to come with the manifold. I am hoping for around 250kw. The price difference between them isn't great so I don't really mind which one I get, I just want the best end result.

This has been bought up on www.corral.net / windsor

The T/W is a big manifold, check that it fits on gasget V some early one's left abit to be desired on sealing. They had to be machined more for better fitment..But that was on early ones..
Now you can make some serious power..

Yes ebxr8240 is right, the corral is a good place to read up on proven engine combos and get general advice. Lots of hardcore racer types there.

Say edxr8 did you have to get new headers to suit the p heads? I hear the different spark plug position on them requires new headers to fit.

I haven't got to the headers yet. Once the engine is back in, it is going in for a new exhause anyway, so I guess I will find out then.

No spares left. Sorry.

I just had a look. The headers do need to be changed to suit the gt40p heads.

Hi ED,

Let me know how you go with the manifold. I have a very similar set up in my ED XR8, and I am planning on getting a upper and lower intake manifold in about 2 months.
