To settle an argument between myself and a mate (one of the 'nah i reckon you're wrong' type ones where noone actually has any factual evidence), which would be faster off the line - EF or VL?

He claims his stock VL will thoroughly woop my EF which has an exhaust system done on it, but I refuse to test his theory and find out who wins (im a wimp when it comes to racing my car, would rather look after it).

So who'd win?!

If the VL has been looked after, it will probably get you off the line, and with a bit of luck, the EF will creep back midway through 2nd.

The EF hands down...

I raced my mate in his VL with exhaust and manual, I never staged up once and never lost once and my EF was a stock as a rock 6 auto at the time.

The Ef should easily beat him, especially with the exhaust done.... Don;t let him intimidate you caus he drives a full sik VL, put him in his place

Thanks guys, next time it comes up I know I will be able to put him back in his place (i.e. second).

The only way a VL will beat you is if it had a turbo hanging off the side, otherwise EF hands down.

Man a hardly modified EA CFI 5spd can beat a stock VL and keep up with sick VL turbos as I have experienced this, you should totally enhiliate it

Like ive said before, my old EA Spac 3speeder could beat VLs, so if an EF couldnt theres something wrong.

Ive hammared it off the line against a VL , if my EA S 5spd with lil mods here and there can beat a stock VL then there shouldnt be a problem.

I gave a VL turbo a race (exhaust, 10psi, auto) a race.... hahaha when I whipped HER (!) off the line, she wanted a roll on... so she gotted whipped again.... VL's are not that special.

Bwahahahah!

As if you are worried. My mate had a manual VL and my MKI (worked) 2 litre Capri kept up with him! Neck and neck. My Falcon thrashes the crap outta the Capri so you should not have a problem mate!

Ive only ever raced a vl twice. One was rolling start, absoloutley thrashed him.
Next was at some lights where both lanes turn right, he had inside lane, and i had completely thrashed him. He was doing the rev rev and roll forward thing, so he was trying.
Think it was a 5spd aswell.

But my other mate has a 5spd wagon, which he reconds whips vt's, etc, yet to try. They also thought a VN would beat me... put it in its place but :)

Even my car will whip a stock turbo one, they stock turbos are only good for low 8sec 0-100. A non-turbo is a waste of time. I do have a good diff though.

bah never lost to an old 80's commo in the EB 5spd.
There may be some fast ones out there but I havn't meet one yet.
I've draged a VL turbo a few times in my 87 Telstar TX5 turbo and beat it (just) and my old mans CFI 5sp EA would kill my telstar (much to my lament and my dads suprise)

Having done this a few times in my Falcon (EF auto), I can tell you the VL will get the jump off the line (lighter and geared lower), but an EF auto will still be in 1st gear before it's overtaking the VL and your watching him in your rear view mirror get smaller and smaller.

Once you hit second, your just watching get smaller even faster :)

This is a stock auto EF 6cyl compared to a stock auto non-turbo VL.

You guys love fords too much!! I drive an EA falcon which goes alright but my brother has a VL commodore which is fu?ken fast. It will beat nearly anything it goes up against and the other day we were neck and neck with my mate's $36000 EVO6 Lancer. He got the shits because a$5000 grand car can keep up with a $36000 car. He got the Vl for $3000 with 110000km on the clock and then has spent about $2000 for a 5spd manual conversion, K&N air cleaner, (100mm cold air intake, stainless steel intake piping all done by Rotary specialist), Pacemaker extractors, high flow cat with straight through muffler and brock resonator, bored out intake plenium and attached a oversized throttlebody off a EFI XF falcon. Now the 3ltr nissan RB30 motor pumps out 160RWHP at the Brock Shop Dyno in Brisbane. I also have to admit nissan make the best motors when you compare them with fords or holdens.(engineering and development is years ahead). We also took a stock vl turbo for a drive last weekend and it had nothing compared with my bro's car. Basically if you talk to any decent performance mechanic the main restriction on RB30 nissan motors is the intake, make them breath and there good for 200RWHP naturally aspirated. So if you see a lowered yellow vl commi on pursuits just be aware that you might get cleaned up because not all vl's a buckets of crap.

cheers jjj

yeah those ef's thrash the NA vl's. I was cruising around one night, passenger in a friends vl when a ef pulled up besides us. anyway bogans being bogans we had to race... the ef killed us. Stopped at the next lights where i couldnt help myself, i had to tell em to race again, only doing that to annoy my mate... sure enough the ef killed us again.
