Is it totally dead or can you kind of see it if you look closer??? It is a 'backlit' display and there's a globe for that makes it light up. I would say it's just globe...

Thanks guys! Looks like the globe!

Too much mess trying to pull the dash out!
Getting these dashes out of EL is dead easy, (5 minutes)
Grab a manual from the library or see if you can get a copy from a dealer (?)
PM me with your phone number if you want and I will give you a call

While we are on the subject of ripin the dash out. I have one more question, same car. The air vent, that controls air flow from outside or circulates the air in car dosent work either, it always sucks air from outside!!! What could this be???

Hey thanks mbrown42, will look for manual at uni tomorrow!

If its the same crappy plastic lever setup that XF's have, then that crappy plastic lever has broken.

You cant glue it cause you cant get enough strength with it, but they can be fixed with a bit of improvisation.

I got a small peice of flat steel, drilled a hole at each end of it and then screwed it onto thwe bropken plastic bit...works a charm.

Hehehe seems all falcon owners are in this party. My backlite display for the odo etc died a while back it's definitly the globes. As when it's shining in the sun you can see the numbers.

I also have the same problem with the outside/inside air. With mine the switch works but it seems it doesn't go into re-circulate mode, how do i access this plastic lever to do the mods to make it work.

BTW guys it's great to have this discussion as we can exchange ideas on fixing our falcon problems.

Also on my EF the illuminate globes for the AC switch died, i have fixed the problem though, took the whole panel switch of the ait controls out and got my mate to re-solder the contact points no problem so far except the illuminate shines through the selector light, ie where it shines orange it illuminates white. I buggered the backing on the switch but can't be bothered to fix it. :crazy3: :crazy3:

This one is from an XD, so it is made of metal, but this is the same lever that breaks on newer models.

As far as I know, youhave to pull the dash to get to it.

Make sure you're getting vacuum to the actuator first before pulling the dash....
Well when i select the switch to re-circulating mode i can hear a noise of a plate switching. Not sure if the plate is stuffed or thre isn't enough vaccum or plate isn't closing properly.
If the re-circ air was working the sound of the fan changes noticablt. In my case it doesn't.

Yep same thing with my dads car EF_Falcon_GuY.

I will rip the dash out and fix it all after my exams are over and i have some time to play around! :) Should be fun!

Also while we are at it. My mate has an EF XR6 and he changd the colours of the lights on his dash, the niddles are red and the numbers and rest of dash are blue! Looks spun out i recon. Because the EF have all white lights all he did was put little rubber things over the lights, to what ever colour he wanted!

Looks cool!

to test fresh-recirc flap:

put hand in duct where air gets drawn in behind glovebox. You should be able to push the flap (usually covered in spongy stuff) up and the fan will draw in air. If it is very easy to move this flap up with the fan off then its busted the lever. ON eas and ebs you can remove the whole LHS of the dash and remove the flap. not too sure on efs onwards though.

If you want a quick fix to keep the flap on the recirc mode, lift it up and screw in a self tapper through the duct to hold the flap up.
