Well to keep it seperate from my fueling thread i thaught i would discuss engine management in here.

Regarding Tuning, i know the stock EECV system wont be a part of anything above 6psi, and a few things came to mind. Using Tweecer is out of the question at the moment due to lack of suport of Ausie EECV's, and a unichip seems like a bandaid fix. I was wondering what would be a cost efective route to take. Im not intrested in going back to EECIV as i have a full EL dash and will keep smartlock and stock instrumentation.

Is a uni chip a good way to go with a 3bar map sensor, or would a full ecu (HALTECH/EMS/Motec) be more suitable?

Any thaughts people?

How much boost do you want to run??

Then look at all the options for their resolution over your range. Some have moveable points and some have hardly any. I wouldn't trust a Wolf 3D ver 3 over 12psi, it moves it's load points from the NA regions to boost. Above 12psi I think only 12% of the points (which aren't many) are in vacuum, this would give questionable part throttle cruising.

Also Motec is probably too overkill for you and your budget. If you could afford Motec you would be sticking on a brand new GT35 roller bearing turbo. The Haltech and EMS have very good praise and are good middle road ecus.

I have Haltech and a friend of mine has EMS 8860 there isn't much between them..They are 100% programable no smadging to make it work. The std eec can still stay to control idle smartlock etc...

I use an EMS 8860. With the high resolution it has it gives very good drivability, fuel economy and better power. I know its a big claim but you can come around and test drive the EA to see for yourself. I also have a adaptor harness that allows this computer to be plugged directly into all ECC4 powered fords (EA/ED/EL). No cutting of wires and 5 min plug and drive job as all tuning has been done(may need some fine tuning) if you want to go this way

intresting, EL(mine) runs EEC5 system, but has the 60pin ECU ala EA/D so some slight rewiring may be required. Does the EMS replace the stock ECU or is the origional computer left in there to control Thermos/idle/AC/smartliock/BEM/Instruments(EL instruments are driven of a databus line).

Very intresting.

Depends how long or how much money you want to pay tuner.Mine operates thermo fans. But left idle to std [Actually Cobra X3Z eec4] But idle control can be done aftermarket as well, just time..Usually chassis operations are left to std eec...

Yeah go with the EMS 8860 like Turbotrana recommended, its what im running at the moment and runs fantastic. A bit rich at the moment as it was tuned for an EA 3.9 with its lower pressure regulator and pump. But once I get this Wide Band O2 sensor plugged in ill be able to tune it on the fly.

Replaces the standard ECU, and everything like A/C, idle, Smartlock still works.

(ill be posting the full detail report of this mod once I get it tuned right, so stay tuned - pun not intended ;) )

sounds good, for EEC4. EEC5 is another matter, Thermos, and databus line. i hope these will work, or the stock ECU may have to remain just for things like Trip Computer+Instruments.

Yeh Martin is using the adaptor harness I made up and since I tuned on a stock EA, the fuel map I gave him is a little rich. He has to do a little bit of tuning( lower fuel % trim function mainly, quite simple) for his XR6 as it runs a higher fuel pressure. If anyone can fax me the EL engine computer wiring diagrams I can see whether the EL has anything that may pose any problem. In anycase I am quite sure I can make it work as well as the EA to ED harness.
When I got some time I'm going to see how much power I can get with Turbonetics T61 turbo, stock injectors at 50psi base fuel pressure, extra fuel pump, maybe extra injector/s and the EMS 8860 but no intercooling at all on a stock EA thats done 300 000km. Will keep you updated on this exercise.

if i could find my damn EF/L manual i would have the wiring diagram.......I think th EMS could control everything apart from the databus line. This ONE wire contains all the information to drive the spedo, tacho, trip etc.....

In this case the original computer can still be used and the EMS 8860 is just used for fuel and ignition. It would still be a full plug in affair, but its just that the harness is $50 more expensive as I have to buy an old ED harness for one of the plugs on it. I do need that wiring diagram whenever you find it to make sure the databus line poses no problems. Since the old computer does not come out the only place the EMS can fit is the glovebox unless the EL has a small space close to the original computer pocket where it could be put into.
