G'day,

Im looking at fixing up an XB Coupe for a bit of a weekend thrasher

Since its a weekend thrasher im not worryed about fuel economy to much and ive found the best options for an engine are the good ol' 351, 460, 427, 429

I was just wondering how these engines compare up in Performance and price (legality maybe in Victoria) and how the polution crap works in Victoria)

I can get the engine built for the price of parts and a friend to help me donate the engine into the beast Coupe im planing to restore

If anyone could help me with a bit of experiance or know how on how these engines stack up it would be a good help.

Just thinking about drivability in the future and i was also considering how i could get 3-400 Pony's out of an engine that runs on Unleaded or LPG ? Maybe even injected... your ideas would be appreciated

My dads got a 351 XY Ute with a strong engine and ive been blessed to take it for a spin and im please to say it fucken hammers.

Copy the old mans ute..Suggestion on those Clevo's don't run big clearence on piston/bore they hammer themselves to death in time. "Good" cast pistons are better in long run. Check manufacterers specs & go the smaller clearences. Some of the old[heavy] forged pistons rattled like crazzy,hammering bore and splitting cylinder walls...

At the moment im toying with the idea of a Fuel injected engine and running it on unleaded (dont want LPG)

im looking for about 350-400 Horsepower so i might look into the 351 or a 429

Its just a weekend car, might join a club or something

i got my piss box toyota for running around

I think a 361 clevo is the biggest you can fit without an engineers. A mates putting a 400 in his XA coupe and putting 351 stickers all over it, the coppers wont know the diff, as the 400 looks simular to the 351!

Big blocks are good to have but you need much horsepower to compensate the extra weight.
A 400 would be the way to go you have the torque of a big block with only an extra 12kg of weight compared to 80kg from a 429 - 460.

Well it kinda depends what you make the intake out of really.
400's and 429/60's are both around the same deck height at 10.3". Which means it's going to be tight.

I'm currently in the process of building a two EFI intakes for 460's.
Both will use modified tunnel ram bases and custom plenums.
One is a Weiand CJ ram and the other a Trickflow CJ ram. The Weiand will be in an XA 4dr and the TFS in an XG ute.
I'll let you know when they are close to going in their respective bays for a dummy fit.
