Hi, ive got an auto 4.1L XF (as seen <a href="http://www.fordforums.com/discussions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3991" target="_blank">here</a>) and ive just picked up a set of Perry extractors for it.

Im thinking of fitting it this coming weekend, and im just curious what size/type of exhaust you all recommend for it.

Since its auto, I dont want it to be too bad on the ears. Just want it to sound nice and give it that extra bit of power that we all want so badly.

So far 2 people have told me to get a 2.5" with super turbo muffler and just like a 3" tip or something.
Someone else told me that a straight through muffler will sound sh*t on auto..etc?

All suggestions are appreciated. thanks!

I've got a set of perries set up as a 6 into 2, then into one about a foot or two down the exhaust system. It sounds great with a hotdog, but the pipes I put in there are degrading rapidly, so i'm going to put in a dual 2.5 inch system, But i havent decided on the muffler brand yet..

shall i get the exhaust guy to join the 2 right at the start, or let the 2 travel down a bit like yours discokin6 ?

I think you can't go wrong with the 2 1/2 and turbo muffler setup. I had the same when I had my XE Ghia 6 cyl. except it was 2 1/4 I think.Sounded great with a nice burble but it wasn't too loud inside the car. Also my brother has just put the same setup in his EL auto six, but retained the resonator.Still sounds very good and it DOES go better.

Rastus,
the 21/2 inch muffler setup on your brothers EL,i'ma ssuming he kept the resonator and two muffler setup like the stock falcons but the pipe was 21/2 instead of stock 2inch. Does it sound like stock, cause if it does i will go for this etup, i want better flow/power but i want to keep the stock sound.

Is your car unleaded or super???

If it is unleaded, the catalytic converter will quieten the exhaust so you can go for a 2-1/4" or 2-1/2" straight thru system with resonator. The 2-1/4" will be quieter than 2-1/2".

If it runs on super - no cat - it will be louder so a Turbo style muffler (triflow) will be more suitable in 2-1/2" or you could get away with a straight thru in 2-1/4".

Your motor is big enough to run a 2-1/2" system, but 2-1/4" will be quieter. When I say straight thru, you can look from one end of the muffler through to the other side. Internals should be perf tube - ie little holes in the tube rather than spiral louvres.

Longer secondaries will help with your extractors, but if you have a catalytic converter it will limit the length and position of the pipes.

Hope this helps.

Dude, thats exactly what my extractors look like.. It might be an idea to keep the twins on for about 2 more feet or something, the exhaust guy will do some maths to get the exhaust impuse just right, when he tunes the length of the exhaust pipes.. But if it is unleaded, then it might be an idea to run twin cats on it too.. pick up some old V8 cat converters from a wreckers or something and get them bung on..

Great to see another perth person too, Dont know too much about the late-model wrecking scene, I was at a few yards in Walliston / Kalamunda yesterday and they had sweet F.A in the way of pipes, cos I wanna put in a dual 2.5 inch system next week..
