I've got a 4 year warranty with ASWN (All State Warranty Network) on my Fairlane. And recently the Auto Tranny does not fell happy about shifting from P to R (a big bang can be heard coupled with something like a driveline twist), while other gears are fine (though a bit slow in changing gears). I'm currently planning to make a claim from them, but I'm not quite sure what I should do when dealing with those people (you know they're businessmen while I'm not). Is there anybody who have got some previous exprienece can share? I really need some advice on this issue. All help is appreciated.

My experience with them was that the warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on. Have you had the trans serviced at all? Do you have all your servicing documentation since you purchased the car?

They are just like insurance companies. How long have you had the warranty for? I ask this because if you haven't given them your car's history the warranty on everything is practically void. You have to service the car every 20,000 k and let them know within 7 days otherwise there's no point.

i think they will make it difficult to claim..they never cover 'wear and tear' and often try to make repairs like this 'routine maintenence' or wear and tear..how many klms u done since new?

Some of them are apparently quite good but the problem is the car need to have regular full services by a certified mechanic at intervals stated by the warrenty company otherwise they will not honor any repairs.

Have to agree, the warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on they are the biggest joke of all time had one on my EL the two things that died werent covered by the warranty, only good thing that has come of it, is that i have cancelled it and getting a nice fat cheq back to me :)

Declined to get one on my ST as well.

They really dont cover half the things that go wrong with the car and the companies have many many ways to get out of paying up for the warranty, main one being if you dont service the car to an exact schedule ( cant even be 1-2 days out or a few kms over ) they will void the entire warranty ( this is speak from experience - $9k debt on an old GSR from that )

Cheers

Chris

Took that to a mechanic that was approved by the insurance company to have a look, which they believe is a gear box mounting / differential bushes / band adjustment after only a 3min test drive. They ask me to get the box serviced (in fact I drop the oil in the tranny around once a month), and if the service can't fix the job, they will replace the tranny mounting, then the bushes and the engine mounting. And only if I've done all those stuff, they will consider that it's a problem that is covered in the warranty. That's already around 300 before I can ask for a claim (and I still need to pay for a 200 excess when I make the claim). I wasn't really that satisfied, as they seems to just wasting my time and money.

Took it to another Auto Tranny place (I've been to there before as my old car was getting a faulty tranny, what the bloke there told me there was to sell the car as it wasn't worth the money to get that repaired. Seems like they are decent guys, at least they did give me some impartial opinion). They put the car on the hoist, plug in a pressure gauge, and found out that the valvebody controlling "P" gear is on the way out, producing an extremely high pressure, which causes the noise. They offered me to get the valvebody done for approx 250, while I will need to pay $200 excess every time I claim the warranty. I guess I'll get the valvebody done myself without all those hassles from the insurance company.

I need to service the car every 5000k or 3 months (whichever occurs first)

Nah, my last service was a bit late (around 10days) as I wasn't in the country and they're pretty cool to that. I reckon that their claims officer are nice but those mechanics in their network, who carries out the inspections and repair job, aren't even decent.

Replaced the valvebody but didn't help much (ya, it gets a bit better but the clunk is still there). The clutch pack is suspected, anybody knows how much should such a job costs? or I should just go to a wrecker and look for a 2nd hand unit?

A second hand gear box will be the cheapest option, but it will be a lucky dip... Have a look in the FF market place as they apear in there all the time.
