Cam just sent this email about a new Tracking system,in fact i think it is a brilliant idea.....the best that i've seen im definately going to enquire about.Another good feature is that if you lock your keys in the car with the use of your mobile phone you can lock or unlock the car, what a great idea and besides you can track your car on the phone or PC. The one off cost of the EziTRAK system from Rojone is around A$1000(plus installations which takes around two hours if you do it yourself or you can have it installed by a technician) and there is also NO MONITORING FEES.

Looks like a great system as long as you have mobile phone coverage and that is getting better daily.

Interesting. Are you aware of Rojone's 'Genius' system? It's been around for a fair while (and I've been planing to get one for a fair while :) and it does all the same sorta stuff (it's on the Rojone site of course).

The EziTRAK looks like a trimmed-down version of the Genius from the way it reads, but if it's $1000, then that's pretty good! The Genius is $2000 last I checked, but the EziTRAK still offers at least the same basic tracking features and would be accessible to a lot more people at half the price. I think both are great units! Great to see from an Aussie company too! ;)

You do need to pay for some sort of mobile coverage.

But I guess you could even use pre-paid ! At worst it might cost $10 per month, which is pretty damn good.

Very interesting. I especially like the remote status checking, locking etc etc. This will be looked into very seriously.

Like Steve, its excellent to see some local companies using some innovation.

Your costs can go way over the $10/month estimate, depending on how you set the thing up. There are SIM packages tailored to this kind of operation, but the carriers will only offer them to you if you have an ABN. Pre-paid isn't a good choice as you will always forget to recharge it, and with many packages you will have to remove the SIM and place it in a handset to call up and recharge it.

Rojone state on their website that you can get insurance reductions from some companies "forget this", insurance companies will not want to know if your system is not 3rd party monitored.

All considered it doesn't look too bad if $1000 is the kit price, dont know about the 2 hours for a full install. I know the genius and it is a good product and has been around for a year or two. If you dont want the GPS tracking Rhino have a cheaper SMS alarm with remote lock/unlock.

I design/distribute a professional product with a lot more capabilities but price will be prohibitive for almost all private users. Most of the business is for fleet and specialist transport.

I have been working on tight integration with BA (and XY) electronics and am looking at implimenting functions like KW limiting, and fixed speed camera location alarming, on top of the normal tracking, remote control, and smartlock/smartshield integration.

All up the new Rojone looks good just be sure you understand the advantages and limitations of what you get in the $1000 kit.

To RED_EL_XR8 when you say look out for the limitations what do you exactly mean by that, seems to do everything and a bit more if you read all about it.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not bagging the Rojone. Just remember all the feature like moving map tracking etc will cost more than the unit itself. If you can work with an SMS of co-ordinates no problem.

Likewise you will not be able to lock/unlock the car if it is in an underground carpark or otherwise out of gsm range.

The Rojone will continue to track outside GSM coverage which most of the cheaper units will not. This is a definate plus.

I believe in this technology, as I said I sell products based on GSM/GPS/GPRS and believe it provides the best cost compromise. The predominate system used in Sydney/Melbourne relies on radio coverage which does not extend too far from the CBD. GSM coverage is excellent but not continuous.

Understand too that much of the cost is integration into the vehicle, $200 will not get too much, GPS speed will be very different from actual road speed, again only important if its a feature you want.

The Rojone web site is full of hype and doesn't do their product justice, just make sure you explain which features you require and be sure they are included in the price.

Hope that helps a little. I'll try and answer any questions impartially.
