Truck runs great , check engine light comes on, engine lopes hard, barely runs at all,not much throttle response slow. Been at 2 mechanic shops over last 3 weeks. Ford dealer suggest changing injectors. My thing is it comes and goes.Would this be more of a short electrically?

what code is being thrown? i've seen that chugging/misfiring and no power a few times, usually worse when cold and it was injectors.
Thanks for the help. Here is what ford test results were. 1). Check engine light on,rough running and no power. Performed IDS tests
KOER KOEO DCL display code found was PO476 , flash PCM #7 failed buzz test , #1 failed electrical, EPR 090 EBP 17psi ICP @2600 WOT TPR 25%600 idle 69%

But after they tested it, i picked it up and it started out barely running. After a mile or so it cleared up and was running normal. Only to start back again later. makes no since how injectors would start and stop working.
Check the Valve cover Electrical plugs. Might be a burnt pin.
I have a 91 E250 when it does that its usually water in the fuel or a bad fuel filter. I have a helluva problem with the fuel filter comming loose all the time.
and even when it is loose it will run normal sometimes.
I've had two Winter motor related problems with the F250. Last Winter at 225K miles the SES came on and no codes were found. The diesel mechanic figured the PCM failed and so far so good, even got one programmed! 244K miles.

Two Winters ago SES came on and then would go away and run normal. When on the truck would run like it was on 6 or 7 cylinders. The same diesel mechanic found the shorted wire near the outside of the valve cover. This occured at 185K miles.

my husband has a E450 and is basically having the same problem. Do you know where the fuel filters are located

if its a turbo powerstroke its right on top of the engine inside a housing.
I have a 2001 F250 7.3 tubro diesel
I have a bullydog 6 pos chip in my truck on economy setting

It has been jumping rpms every now and then for about 2 months only about 200 rpms and when going about 40mph it would only happen once or twice a week and then no more problems

Twice i was driving and my service engine soon light came on and it felt like I had no power. I took my foot off the accelator and back down and all was normal again. This happened twice exactly the same.

Just before I took it to the shop on my way home from home depot about 10 miles. I would give it gas and it felt like it was slipping or losing power. I took it to the transmission shop. They drove it two or three times and could not find anything wrong.

I have been driving seldom now that I have it back. The SES light would never stick but this is the codes they were able to pull at the transmission shop.

PO470 - exhaust pressure sensor circuit fault
P0476 - exhaust pessure control valve performance
PO605 - internal control module rom error
P1249 - wastegate control valve performance
PO603 - internal control module ram error

Any help would be great thanks

A weak point on these is the UVCH (under valve cover harness), most of the time when you have an intermittant fueling problem, one of these is coming loose.
Tom
I used to have similar problems with mine and it turned out to be bad fuel,
another cause of what your describing could be the cps sensor. not sure what your year is but ford has a recall on them for 97-03, so get them to replace to for free even if its not bad
H i every body out there!!!im new to this site . and I have a litle situation with my ford f-350 7.3 dually!... this started when, I was charging bateries every 5 to 7 days on a normal basis because they were going death ! ..brand new ones!!!.until I replaced the starter, it worked perfect !. then I was driving my truck the nex day and ,so you now I hit a bump really hard, That one of my spare bateries in the back of my truck, turned up side down.(flipped). both poles making contact with the metal bed ,, of course I did not notticed this until nex day....so the nex day my truck was death as a block .. no power at all, I replaced the power window fuse and 3 more fuses that were out ...as well as the burnt heavy smell on the side of the starter so I went underneat and noticed an ozzing black tar but dried ..(like if it was melted and dried ) but some of it was wet ..when i touched it and smell it ...man.. that was the most disgustig burnt smell i ever smell!!!!...i tought my starter burnt but cranked Ok. I tried to replace my spare bateries and I noticed it was empty and no juice I assume because of the negative positive touching the bed (metal) so I got a different batteries and replaced the bad ones .replace the solenoid ,just in case and "yes the wiring on it is correct" I also replace the ignition safety switch under the steering column. as soon as I cranked it noticed the starter was not burned cause it cranked perfect. not heavy and no check engine light. nice oil presure but knoticed it started to sound a little knocking, and it took about 7 minutes to start getting heavyer and heavyer so I stop the engine, did it again and knocking was heavyer ..the rest is what Ibeen writing to you guys Im going to start with the harnes, as some guy in another forum sugested check the(UVCH) under valve cover harnes,,any help willbe much apreciated!!!! and I will keep you guys Updated.. Thanks.. Alex

Maybe a split injector tip. Here is a you tube video of the issue:

I don't have any personal experience with this just read about it.
I do want to Thank every body for Emails & reply's .. and thanks to this video I focuse on the glow plug direction. I did n;t know the diesel trucks will knock that hard when lack of gas on engine.. I have 3 more diesel trucks and Thank god never had any problems with them other than alternator bateries or starters. one of my truck has 522 k miles on it and still pulls my dump trailer with the bob cat on it.. but again I 'm the only driver for that truck. back to my problem... when ihappened, i had replacethe starter,a burned solenid, and as soon as I cranked it ,I started to hear that noise (knocking) so asummed it was lack of oil or electrical related issue. so thanks to this an some other forum I studied the glow pugs prosedure. did all the testing and ended up with good system ..so once I comfinmed the HVCH was not damaged with out tearing valve covers apart... after replacing filters and knoticed some dirt on fuel fiter ..Cleaned the reservoir and tested fuel pump and it was not sending diesel to the reservoir. I could hear it working but not pumping. so I just disconnected it and atached a pigtail hose to the back ,or inlet an blowed realy hard on it wile power it on with a wire connected to the battery,.. an wallaaaaaa worked puged every thing back on and my truck is runnig like a champ so I installed a one of those marine water separator filters as the guy from 'powerstrokehelp' sugested ..with a diesel filter, bu I installed it before mi fuel pump.. So I really APOLIGISE for all the time and effort that I may cause you to loose with all my requests. I ended up studying more on diesel engines than when I was in high school and I think I will keep doing it and try my best to help people if I know I can help..THNK YOU ALL! very muchand I hope this kind situatios if you are in one like mine will get solved I one or another way..God bless America!!!!...Alejandro Ramiro Bravo..

I have a 2000 F350 7.3. I was driving about 70-75 MPH when suddenly I lost acceleration, the tac flew into the red, my check engine light came on and the truck started running real rough. I pulled over and as I slowed it started coughing. The motor totally stalled and the lights flickered. It didn't die, it stalled completely, then it caught itself and came back to an idle as I was rolling. I came to a stop and I turned it off. Waited about 30 seconds then started her right back up. The check engine light didn't come back on when I restarted. It did this to me twice on my way home from work. No codes. Any ideas?
You really should start a new thread, this is from 2011, likely to be overlooked.
With the transfer case being low on oil would that throw it in the limp mode 01 Ford F-350
