According to reports in the Italian Gazetta dello Sport newspaper, the Ferrari team are working on a revolutionary transmission system for 2002, although they will use the 2001 car for the first few races of the year.

Reports in the Italian press suggest that the 2002 Ferrari will be an evolution of the 2001 car which secured both the drivers' and constructors' championships this year. Ferrari used several modifications for 2002 on their car towards the end of the 2001 season and were pleased with the results - the most obvious being Schumacher's performance in Japan in a new chassis.

A new engine will be ready for testing early in 2002 but the car Ferrari are set to take to Australia, Malaysia and Brazil will be an evolution of the car Schumacher drove in Japan 2001 - although brought into line with stricter safety regulations for 2002.

Reports suggest that Ferrari will bring a new car out at the first race of the European stint of the season, at Imola.

Furthermore, Michael Schumacher's manager was quoted as saying that the team was developing a revolutionary transmission system which combined engine and gearbox into one single unit without a flywheel.

I think Williams might be the team to beat Ferrari, they have showed great progress over the last two years.
It will be Ferrari v Williams, hopefully Jaguar progresses also.
