Speculation on a Focus Coupe for 2002/2003 that will be the next incarnation of the ZX2 is not just rumours.
It is fed by Ford Motor Europe's own design pictures at an auto show in Geneva in 1999, and writeups in British car magazines. Pictures archived at an independent website:

I sure do hope that Ford actually makes different side body panels and windshield for this car, instead of just tacking on a trunk (boot to Brits) to the existing ZX3, and bring the hip point and center of gravity about three inches lower than they are now.
Plus hopefully put in both variable intake and exhaust cam timing to get that low-rpm torque that the ZX2 is famous for., fuel economy, ULEV compliance and put in variable valve lift (thanks Toyota) for high RPMs for even more HP.
And since Ford already announced that their next Zetec engine line would have a 2.3L instead of 2.0L as the top version, we will get a car that is highly competitive in the sporty econo car market!
I have my fingers crossed.
