I just bought a 2014 Ford Flex with push button start. When I bought it i noticed that the physical key inside of the fob was not cut. I assumed that i would be able to go to a dealer and they would be able to cut it and it wouldnt be a problem.

it seems i was wrong, I have had the car to two different dealers that are telling me when they look up the VIN the code that they would use to cut a key returns all asterisks. They also both said i would probably have to go to a locksmith and get them to make using the inside of the lock

i would rather just get it cut from a dealer anyone have and idea why this might be happening and what else i could do?

On checking found this , whether true or not I cant say .

" I work for a Ford dealership. The key code to cut a key is not available to Ford dealers after 10 model years, but locksmiths can get key codes for a fee. "

First time I've heard of this happening. Any chance of getting any info from the place of purchase? A little bit of negotiating might lead to them at least sharing the expense of getting the key sorted out.
Short of a solve there, I would get a replacement fob and get it programmed as a backup in case something happens to the one you're currently using. Used fobs are readily available, just make sure to get one with a matching FCC ID and chipset, from there a locksmith can program it to your vehicle, and they may have some insight as to further options for the tumbler lock situation.
