Hey guys, I found this little tip over at TurboFord.org. I would try it, but my headlights haven't really yellowed all that bad. Can someone who has a problem with yellow headlights try this and give us some feedback.

Step1) Remove your headlights.
Step2) Fill them up 1/2 way with water and "Tide" laundry detergent and shake the crap out of them.
Step3) Rinse them out really good.
Step4)Then, use 2000 grit sandpaper and wet sand the outside of the lenses. Run water over them while you do this.
Step5) Go over them with a buffer and some "cleaner-wax".

According to the guy, his headlights came out looking brand new.

Thanks for the heads up man! My right headlight is starting to fade yellow even despite the fact I clearcoated them.

The ones on my 1987 GLS are pretty yellow, so I will try this out this August once I'm back in VA. Thanks for the tip!

I got pretty good results using rubbing compound (my lamps were REALLY yellow), and then a coat of cleaner wax on the outside of the lamps. Whatever was coating the lamps started sloughing off and while they don't look new, I can at least see at night again. ...Is it just the poor quality of the plastic used in Ford's headlamps that makes these things yellow? I don't see Toyota or even GM (whose parts quality is always suspect) headlamps turning yellow.

Has anyone tried HID bulbs or the Sylvania CoolBlue halogens in their Tempo/Topaz? Do they really improve visibility?

Actually

There's a Lexus here in my parking lot with yellowed headlights. I see a lot of other GM's with the same problem as well. A lot of GM trucks get it. Never seen a Cavvy get it because they do use a high quality plastic. Toyota Camry get yellow too.....it's a problem for just about all cars with plastic headlamps.....not just Ford...

"cool blue" bulbs

I have those cool blue headlight bulbs, there's not much of a difference. they are not brighter or anything. But I know those "hyper white" or whatever they're called are really bright compared to conventional bulbs.
