hey, just wonderin if anyone's used Glasspacks before, and the pros and cons of them over like, Borlas or Cat-Backs. i wanna put them on my T-Bird (93 LX) and i was curious if anyone else has had any experience with the part.

Here's the thing with glass-packs. They are just like other exhausts in the fact that either you like the way they sound, or you don't. It's just a matter of opinion. Most glass-packs will get louder over time as the packing breaks down and gets blown out. What some people do is put them on, get the car inspected, then while they are hot, throw water on them or spray gas in them to purposely get the glass to break down and blow out. This of course makes them loud! Keep in mind that whatever exhaust you use, sound is the least of your concerns. Stock motors need similar (to stock) back pressure. If you put on a more free-flowing intake, you can usually put on a more free-flowing exhaust. The only way to really get the right mixture of components is on a dyno. :hy:

oki, i have a Greddy Intake and Intercooler, its about 400. so...what exactly are my options with the glasspacks...like, a specific type, size, etc. ???

First off, glasspacks are very oild school. If you want a free flowing exhaust, there's better choices.

If you insist on glasspacks, be advised there are 2 types. One is the louvered core, the other is the perforated core. Grab one and look down it's throat. Do you see little dimpled louvers from the center tube sticking down into the flow? Or do you see a smooth wall center tube with holes (perforations)? The louvered core versions don't flow for crap, those louvers sticking down into the flow provide a lot of back pressure. The perforated core versions flow much better.

Which brings us to a better choice, which is a Magnaflow muffler. It's a straight-through perforated core design. Very well made, they sound great, and flow very well. Better than Flowmasters.

Go under your car and measure your existing muffler. Then go on Magnaflow's web page and find which model number of their's is closest in size to your OEM muffler. You can then order the thing on line and save a wadd of cash, and then just take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it on.

I have an 88 IROC Camaro with a Magnaflow, it's great. Pretty mild mannered around town, but loudern'hell at wide open throttle. Best of both worlds!

wow mate, thanks for the info. i havent bought anything yet, cuz i switched jobs, so i havent had a whole lot of time to do anything to my cars =/

anyways, im lookin at the glasspacks cuz theyre cheap, and easy, and sound good at the same time. the Advance Auto Parts abotu 5 miles from me carries both types of them, and in 2 styles, so i think im going to go with that. i want the perferated ones, cuz i want it loud, and i want it fast, with as little backpressure as possible.

If you want loud and minimum backpressure, then perf core is the way to go, no question. I think Thrush makes perf core glasspacks.
