yes you read it correctly - not A/C problems but heater problems. :AAHHH:

I know there are 50 posts about different peoples cars running hot at the moment and i know i need a radiator clean/new radiator. :sperm:

I was at the traffic lights and my temp rises to the 'L' of normal (hot i know) I proceed to turn my AC off and put the heater on to the hottest setting to cool the engine down. nothing but cool air continued to come out of the vents , hence no engine cooling....the temp guage continued to rise...

Now - my heater tap was replaced afew months ago and worked just great during winter. The vacume hoses area all connected so ive not no idea why it wont work now.

Please throw ideas at me guys

there are two types of thermostat - one looks like a normal one, and the other has an extra little bit that hangs down, and opens and closes the heater inlet/outlet (i dunno which one it is, never checked) im not exactly sure when that little bit is supposed to be open or shut, but when a workshop fitted a new thermostat to my mums car (EF fairmont) they fitted the one with the extra bit, and her heater imiediately stopped working.

i didnt know that there was two types and it drive me mad trying to figure out why - eventually lukey039 and i removed the dash to check the air mix doors and stuff, they were all good, and then he wanted to check the thermostat - bingo. hacked the extra bit off with a hacksaw and put it back in - beautiful!

maybe check yours and remove the bit if it has one?


of course, thats after you get someone to move the hot/cold lever in the cabin while you watch the heater tap to see if it moves as it should...

As far as i know my thermostat is just the normal type , it was the same one that was in the car when the heater worked....

ill check the heatertap still opens / closes tho..

The dual acting thermostat will only be a problem if its stuck open; and cutting the poppet valve on the bottom off can cause overheating problems.

in what way? all it does is close off the circulation to the heater valve, which if it is shut makes absolutely no difference, but when the heater tap is open and the poppet valve shuts you get no heater action...as per my mums car...
