Hi there ,

Yeah we got the ST too , there was a ST200 and ST240 not sure if the latter was that much more faster as they both had a tweeked version of the cougars 2.5 V6 but in deep metalic blue , wire mesh grill and 16 inch multi spoke alloys its an nice cruiser for a family car!!

Wish they would finaly pull out the stops and do a mondeo cosworth . I know the focus is on the way but its not quite the Q car that the seirra cosworth was . (just too obvious , I like the subtle touch , wolf in sheeps clothing and all that )

It sure as hell would be interesting to see what Cosworth could do with the V6 Mondeo.Imagine a turbo on it.

Theres a company over here called Turbo Technics who used to do a lot of Fords (at a cost) . The did the Capri 2.8 MkIII and jesus what a machine , it had a 50-70 in top gear comparable to a 911 carrera and that was part of the reports the press came back with not Ford themselves .

But the possibley the best they did was the Twin-Turbo 2.9 V6 that went into the Seirra XR4x4 and the Ganada Scorpio . Thaty Had to varients a 230 bhp and a 260bhp one lovely stuff!!!!

Once got offered a V6 twin turbo (£400) and was contemplating it seriously . The boy claimed it was a coswprth 24valve unit from a Granada scorpio . if this was the case the engine itself will develope 190bhp then an twin turbo on top this would have pushed out 260+ bhp

decided against it as the cost to rebuild the turbos and engine wasn't too bad but it was all the other stuff I needed to do to the car to handle the power was the problem , bigger brakes larger alloys and all that suspension work , this alone could have been thousands .

next time I'll be going the ford 302 route . Just such a lovely sound .

5.0 Ltr Capri sounds good.Would you be doing an engine refit to the one you have. Isn't there a South African Capri that came out with 5.0 standard. There are a number of Cortina's down here that have been V8'd.The Aussie Cortina's came out with stronger equipment already set up as they were sold with an inline 6cyl as an option.

That is what I am waiting for as well.I do like the Cosworth Escort alot but it was the Sierra for me because of it,s midsize. The Mondeo would be in the same bracket and I think would be a winner with Cosworth performance etc.

Just to let you know that the ST240 has never been released yet. Currently the ST200 still rules the roost.
If your intrested in mondeos pop along to www.fordmondeo.org ,the biggest and most popular mondeo site on the web! :D

Not at the moment. Theres a guy who is building a Turbo to go on his 2.0, one guy is running 75 shot of nitrous on his 200bhp Contour (american version of the mondeo).
I'm now trying to decide what to do to mine, ideally i'd put a cossie engine in mine, but I dont have the funds!

Hi monkeyra. A cossie transplant into a mondeo sounds cool .How hard is this to do and which cossie unit is the best to use.

would it not be easier to set up a turbo on the zetec????

a few mods to the oil return and intakes and use a old cossie turbo??

I know its not exactly a professional job but with the right people it could be cheaper

Yeah, turboing a Zetec would be better I guess. I know a bloke who lives in scotland who's doing that at the moment.
I also know someone whos developing a turbo kit which will go on sale shortly, currently running at 325 bhp on stock pistons and rods, actually trying for 350bhp today but reckons it'll blow the engine.

with stock stuff he must be talking about some serious head work , chipping and decent hybrid turbo which is all fair and good but he better be carefull , don't think anyones ever tested the zetec under stresses like that b4 ???????

there was also talk in the Classic Ford Magazine about using a wetec bottom end on a cvh and therefore getting better reliability and extra cc out of it with out skimming the cylinders , not fancy going down this road and use a escort rs turbo engine as the base???? 2.0 turbo in a different route?????

That is quite serious horsepower. Is there much High perf stuff out there for the zetec motor.I never hear of anyone modding them here in the engine area.

I dunno what other stuff he is running to get that power, but next time I talk to him i'll let you know. He's doing it in conjunction with a few specialist companies, so it's a kind of partnership.
I've heard about the CVH thing, it's got a name, but I cant remember what it is.
Theres tons of options available when you sit down and think about it. I dont know which is the best route to go.
I'm gonna wait though until the guy from scotland either pulls it off or goes tits-up.

There is if you know where to look.
www.raceline.co.uk can give you 250bhp N/A, although it will cost you the best part of £10k.
The zetec isn't cheap to tune, which is a drawback!

BBF get ahold the magazine I mentioned Classic Ford .

It seems to be the latest craze over here . Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts with Zetecs , take off the injection and slap a pair of twin 45 webbers and let it suck the juice till it pops !!!!

Theres people making a living just making adapter bits . mounts to change to in line rather than transvese , gearbox plates so you can mate up your old 4/5 speeder to keep your prop, manifolds for the carbs and new modded cylinder heads .

Its starting to be the new thing . B4 if you had an old escort you got rid og the crossflow and dumped a pinto in now its a zetec and as more come onto the second hand market from old mondeos its turning into a big business.

10k pounds is huge in NZ dollars. This would explain why I see very few mods down here. If they became a popular car to increase power on then the costs would drop with all the parts sold.Subaru's,Nissans and Honda,s have plenty of options for modding and the prices are reasonable .
