The 96 model Ford Taurus was a very good car masked in dubious styling. Whilst we did not see the Taurus here in Australia, we did get a mixed version of Taurus and Sable features.

So, now looking at the current Ford Taurus it has the same door shape, side window profile etc. The Sable is even more changed.

Thing is, I don't half mind the look of the Sable/Taurus now.

I wonder how much Taurus/Sable there is in the influences on Barra??????????

Do you have any pics that you could post of the current Taurus I would be interested to see what it looks like because the one they sold over here was bloody ugly.

I could probably look for pics at Fords US website but i'm too lazy.

From what I've heard, the falcon will be alot squarer, with a more aggressive looking stance. I don't think it will look anything like the new taurus. I think it will look more like the new Mondeo, side panels etc.

Yeh it does look better than the ones we have over here, but I still don't really like the huge indent in the side of the doors and guards. To each his own I guess. Ford really went overboard with the "oval" styling everywhere.
I think that they were a good cars though for a front wheeler though weren't they? Does anyone have one or know of someone with one and what the cars are really like?
...Hey, at least they've got dual exhausts.:p

These are pics of the new Audi A4 that has just been released. As soon as I saw the these pics, it reminded me of the sketches I posted of the supposed AV falcon (from wheels mag)

What do you think???

Yeah side by side like that the similiarities are more than the differences. The front end obviously differs, but apart from that and the roofline, things seem pretty close. I for one think that's not an entirely bad thing! If it is even close to this kind of design, it will be a winner. No doubt. :D

Yeah the Taurus was good car, and it should have been when Ford spent $2-3 Billion on it. The EF cost about $500million and Wheels said the Fairmont Ghia was a better car when they compared the 2. Just shows that us Aussies can do alot with very little

I also never thought it was ugly, just different ;)

From what I remember of the 300+ at the MMs the wheel archs looked ok. But those Audi once are shockers. If you don't get the wheels and ride height just right they look absolute crap. Flares belong in the 70s full stop. As far as the package as good as the Au2, it is the rear wheel arches that cause problems to the overall look. Talk to anyone who has lowered one and it is hard not to make the rear guards look out of proportion with the rear wheels. When you follow a car from behind it looks as though the shell was added to the wheel base and track as an afterthought. With the audi design there is way too much emphasis placed on the sections directly above the wheel. You don't want this part to over shadow the wheel and brake design.

The 'Tear Drop' headlights on the Taurus seemed to take their styling cues from the US spec Ford Escort ZX2. All in all, that looked reasonable from the front.

I remember wandering through York of all places, in the UK, and coming across an Escort ZX2. Being LHD it looked quite unusual. A lot of Pommes were waking around it wondering if this was going to be the next Escort. The only thing was that the Focus was announced at that time, even though pics of it hadn't been released yet.

Only the 2-door Escort survives in the US now. It lives because there's apparently no 2-door version of the Focus. Or so I read anyway.

The rear treatment of the Taurus is similar to a Buick of the same size. I was often getting them confused when they drove past.

I will say, though, that in real life that huge nostril between the lights seems even bigger.

I actually like the back end of the new Taurus, it looks quite classy but the front looks a bit too drab pus the interior looks as dull as well, the origional interior looked quite interesting with its ovoid shapes.
