We have an AU Futura series II. Its grey...nice wheels...fairly new and we have had it for 3 months.

now...
why the hell would you key an au? Don't get me wrong, I love the car and I HATE people that key peoples cars...but I don't see why you'd even key the car. It's not like its an expensive luxury car or some jap import...its a standard, normal, ford sedan. No mods.

In the past few months, it has been keyed 3 times and had 2 door slams into the side (no notes of course, because people are gutless ****heads)

The only thing I can think of is that they are jealous or hardcore holden fans.

So what are we to do? Stop parking in parking lots? Put a car cover on it when we leave it alone?

I'm afraid that when I buy my XB coupe and give in a nice glassy finish, I won't be able to take it anywhere unless someone is in the car the entire time...

Even if you ARE in the car, people still open their doors onto your car, and then all you can do is argue and get no where, you can't even park next to an expensive bmw or merc and get respect these days, in fact they are the worst at damging other peoples cars in my opinion.

Just kids being idiots probably, and even if you got them busted, they get off as they are only kids.

It is a big pain in the ass that's for sure. My XF Ghia was a good looking car and it was stolen and recovered in 97 but managed to avoid being keyed until the last few months that I had it, and I had it over 8 years. Some prick keyed the boot pretty bad. Didn't buff out. Could have been worse I guess, but geez, had we caught them at it.

You just can't trust anybody. I parked it on some grass off the road while at Ford when buying the new car and a cow got dropped off in a taxi and slammed the door into it getting out, while we were walking back to it. I just watched her and yelled at her. Felt like waiting around and following her home and...... :fraz:

Bad enough people don't watch their kids when they open doors to see an adult not giving a damn.

Driving up to Noosa a few years ago in Dads AU wagon we hit a Kangaroo on the way up and it did alot of damage to the drivers side of the car. It was still driveable, so I drove it around a bit when we got there. Anyway, I went to the movies one rainy day and came back out to find someone had keyed the other side of the car. How much of a wanker would you have to be to do that?

more often than not you'll probably find that the people doing that sort of thing have the attitude of 'f**kin rich prick' etc etc, just cos they drive a beaten up old XF or something. Its pretty sad that some people need to feel 'secure' by doing that sort of thing to make the owner feel bad.

Btw, if ever you do spy someone about to go for your AU, use the panic button feature. I spied a couple of kids ready to key my Dad's AUII Fairmont, hit the alarm and they scattered everywhere. Works every time!

Its sad that there is no respect for other people. When I see a nice car that makes me feel a little bit jealous, rather than key it I usually just have to wipe the drool off my mouth :)

Oh well.... I can only hope that karma returns the favour somehow..

back2thefutura: thanks for the advice :) Sadly I think the majority of this happens when I'm at work.. good advice anyway tho..

Mate bugger the panic button. if i seen kids going to key my car or anyone elses for that matter. I could not care if it was the biggest POS out. I would slam each and evey little pricks hands in my door and shove there key up there arses. Then i would stick the key covered in Poop on there forhead then kick them a few times just to get the message across. Its starting to get really bad anywhere you do now. I come back to my car check each doors and back and front before i get in to see if i can spot any damage.

Always wondered what'd be cheaper.
A "shopping trolley car" -ie, a car bought for trips to car parks, or spending the money on touch ups and dent removal each year considering the shopping trolley car would have to be registered and insured, kept road worthy. Probably looking at a few grand a year. About how much it'd cost to remove a few small dents and get a respray for 1 panel or something.....Kids must be the worst as my front doors are fine, back doors are a different story. Grrrr

Just slam their heads in the bonnet or panel of choice. If you catch anyone else trying to mess with your car, show them the dent and say "That's from the last little prick who messed with my car!"

Some people just suck.
Just don't get yourself in trouble beating them up though.

I think its about 80% luck and 20% planning. I try to avoid dodgy areas, and in shopping car parks, go out of my way to find "stealth" parks that are protected from the public (e.g. giant spots that have poles on either side, or are at least as far as possible from camry's, cars with dents, or cars with obvious child related crap inside. Kids have no clue at all.

I hate to say it but theres basically nothing you can do. I have given up and dont take the XR to the shops anymore, thats what the EF wagon is for now.
The XR got keyed on the front guard about a week after I got it, so it is no longer used for trips to the shops.
Oh, and if I did catch them? Well, I have a clean police record and I'm an upstanding member of the community, I think 1 "get out of trouble free" assault charge has been earned if I need it.

Ages ago, when dad first got the old NL, parked it in the street where he was working at the time, the day he got it, came back, driver's side mirror smashed off.

How hard is it to pull over, own up and stick a note under the wiper blade?

When i was at the shops few weeks back some bitch opened her car door and it slammed it into my escort, then she goes sorry(with a laugh) and i told her yer right then she goes "who cares it just a old bomb, paints faded"
then i go thats not the point if it were my other car ill make you pay.

And years ago some dick in a toyta cressida hit her door againt my dads XC and made a scartch we saw her but we acted like it wasnt out car then when she walked off we gave her car a lil kick on the door just a lil one.

I dont know if anyone knows of 'The Pines' in Doncaster Templestowe but its full of adolescent jealous little wankers who wait for the bus out the front near the car parks and I wouldnt put it past them to try to destroy someones Pride and Joy. I usually park out the back next to a family friends company van. They own a shop in there and are well known so I dont get into trouble from centre management.

Still, getting mouthful from some old manager codge is far better than having to pay for a keyed car. When i'm out having coffee, i'll usually park where I can see the car, takes a while but is worthwhile!

Anyway, thats my 2 bobs worth.......
