The Ford motor is 5615 CC - then divide by 16.387064 to get cubic inches (2.54 cubed). That equals 342.64 cu. inches.

I thought it was a 347 stroker kit used but Im not sure what it was now.

Typically a "347" stroker has been bored out .030 or .060 (I can't remember which). The job is usually done aftermarket where the engine has already done lots of kms. But since the T3 5.0 block was brand new, it didn't need boring out. It still has the same stroke as the legendary 347 though. I think this is why Ford didn't use the term 347, because technically it's not 347 ci. So they went with "5.6L".

But everyone refers to the job as a 347 stroker, as long as it has the 3.4 inch crank.

This is also one of the most popular mods in the US to do with a 302w.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the only difference between the 302 and the 351 the crank, with the strokes being different. 4'' to 4.5''?

Or is this only on the Cleveland?

No that is only the Cleveland.

The 351 Windsor has a completly different block with a higher deck height, so although the cylinder heads will interchange, things like the intake manifold etc will not.

I have a strange feeling that the firing order might also be different.

351W is a taller block. Much larger main bearings and a 3.5 inch stroke vs. the 302's three inch stroke.

Heads interchange. But, intakes don't. There is a company out there that makes adaptor plates so you can runa 302 intake on a 351W.

If bored out to 30thou or whatever, then does the full kit come with the rings too?

IS the boring of the cylinders more or less re-honing them as they are most likely an old engin whcih has alot of kays under the belt?

Yes. They would really only bore out .030 because the engine would be worn. If you were looking to increase the capacity by boring, you limit the life of the block. Hot rodders used to love doing this to their early V8s because they had thick castings around the bores. They would take out up to 0.250 and more.
(remember in the beach boys song, "she's ported and relieved and she's stroked and bored")
You can bore and stroke a 351w to 427ci but once the engine wears out, that's it. Throw the block away or put sleeves in and start again.

But "347 stroker" sounds cooler than "343 stroker + .030" don't you think?

I know this is a very old post but it is still referenced.

The 5.6L (5,605 cc) used in the AU T3 is a 342 c.i. engine. Essentially it's a 302 Windsor block (8.2" deck height) & the 5.6 litres of displacement was reached by just lengthening the stroke from the standard 302 c.i., 76.2 mm (3.0 in) stroke to 86.4 mm (3.4 in) stroke, the bore remains at the standard at 4.000" or 102mm.

This entails a unique crankshaft with a 3.4" stroke (1.7" throw/offset) hence requiring unique rods & pistons to ensure dimensions that do not push the piston beyond the deck or below the cylinder skirt.

There's a lot of engineering concepts way beyond this thread like Rod/Stroke ratios, Rod angle, Piston acceleration, Piston compression height, etc., all of which affect your max rpm, cylinder wall longevity, piston ring durability, etc., but this is what is commonly called a stroker engine.

The 347 c.i. is effectively the same as a 342 with a 30thou oversize bore (4.030) & the same 3.4" crank, same 5.4" connecting rods & same pistons (1.1" compression height/distance). This & the 327 c.i. (332ci w/ 30thou over) are the two stroker combinations achievable using a standard 289/302 Windsor block (8.2" deck height).

You can achieve 327ci, 342ci, 363ci, 376ci, 388ci, etc., and everything in between using a number of different crank/rod/piston configurations on purpose designed aftermarket 8.2" deck height blocks that can accommodate up to 4.155" bore & 3.47" of stroke for 376 c.i. or 4.2" bore & 3.5" stroke for 388 c.i. These are expensive to build due to the aftermarket components required & so are typically used for short duration applications like drag racing. You would require virtually a whole new EFI configuration to accommodate these puppies also, bigger FI's, high flow fuel pump, 90/105 MAF, TB, MAP, etc., then there's the ECU side of the house, dyno tuning. Will a BW tranny then be able handle the HP, what about the diff. But a 363ci hidden within an 8.2" deck height block in a late E-series or AU-series Ford would be very neat indeed & street-able if you had a wad of cash to spend. And maybe throw a supercharger on for good measure.!!
That's why the 327/332 & 342/347 are the value for money, popular strokers out there. You can regrind a 351 crank, use a standard block, aftermarket rods & pistons & away you go, easy & cheap.

Hope this helps somebody.

FYI - the 351W has a 9.5" deck height & other unique characteristics, some pointed out in the thread above.

Nope last I checked 289/302 were close and the max safe bore stroker is 347 which should still be on the lowest side in cubes for 5.8l displacement is 347ci.331 stroker is smaller equal to 5.4l and 372ci is 6.2l and 364ci is 6.0l. I would go 351w to 427stroker with p38 heads John kasse . Looking to push up to 600hp their. You tube p38 heads they are a Cleveland style head.
