Just as some were beginning to write off McLaren as serious contenders this year, the Woking outfit returns to form, with Kimi Raikkonen breaking Juan Pablo Montoya's day-old lap record at Valencia.
While Raikkonen was topping the timesheets, teammate David Coulthard was fifth quickest, albeit 0.5s off the pace. However between them the two McLaren drivers completed 175 laps, a major confidence boost in terms of reliability.
Second quickest was Mark Webber, as Jaguar continues where it left off yesterday. In addition to once again completing the most laps of the day (128), Webber posted a fastest lap just 0.101s off Raikkonen's best. Teammate Christian Klien successfully completed a race distance run, giving the Milton Keynes team further reason to approach the coming season with confidence.
Ralf Schumacher joined Juan Pablo Montoya today. The German spent the morning working on set ups, trying out a wide range of different settings before focussing on tyre testing in the afternoon in addition to testing the traction control and carrying out a number of practice starts. The German posted his fastest lap of the year at the Spanish track. Meanwhile, Juan Pablo successfully carried out a race simulation, despite having to stop several times as a result of red flags.
BAR had Button, Sato and Davidson on duty. The Japanese driver was the quickest of the Lucky Strike trio, Davidson paying particular attention to brake evaluation.
Toyota had Ricardo Zonta and Cristiano da Matta on duty, the Brazilian duo completing 176 laps.
