Need help, fully rebuilt 351, 302 rods, 302 heads, 35/75 solid cam. edelbrock performer, a set of rollers, hi-6 ignition, and a 600 vac sec holley. Fires straight up then dies, runs great above 2000rpm, crisp and clean, anything less and it dies as if you turned it off, have cleaned and kitted the carby, paying particular attention to the idle curcuits. I am confident that i don't have any vaccuum leaks, at a losss, can anyone help.

stopping like that has to mean it has no fuel for sure. Is the idle circuit rich/lean or adjusted correctly? Make sure the slot in the t/body has just a sqaure or it showing.

I've seen engines ring crisp and clean at higher rpm that were really lean. When they dropped the rpm the engine would richen up and stall.

What's the dissy like?

I had a similar problem with a flogged out shaft on an Accell elect dissy. It would run true and fire correctly at higher revs but would stumble and die at idle because the shaft was wobbling all over the place.

Had a new dizzy built to suit. Have had to screw idle screw in a lot to get it to run at 2000rpm, whole slot in carby showing but dies if i back it off. I've checked the fuel level and have roughly set the timing, allowing for the advance at 2000rpm. I have cleaned the carby a couple of times, at a bit of a loss.

try swapping another carb , if no good then you might have a dizzy badly timed or it may need the soapy trick to find the manifold leak ?

Sounds like a wrong gasket has been fitted at time of carb overhaul. Check your new gaskets against the old ones. I have had a similar problem and it was found to be the throttle plate to carb base gasket blocking the idle circuit.

Tried aerostart and soapy water, no leaks, you can fill up the small space caused by the angle of the head with water and it does'nt blow bubbles or get sucked in. Pulled plug and lead and started motor, spark appears to stop before the engine stops turning, has anyone had a proplem with a HI-6?
