I just bought a 97 taurus and noticed light blue smoke coming from the exhaust pipe code says that the catalytic converter is bad , would that be the cause of the smoke? The car runs great and does not get hot. there were no other codes found on diagnostics. Any other suggestions on what could be causing it?

so I replaced the plugs, wires, and all of the filters. soon after doing so the car now wants to run hot. My guess now is that it is not the catalytic converter causing the smoke.

Sounds like you are burning oil. Burning oil can cause cat. failure because it is extra Hydrocabons (unburned fuel). A cat. can only process so many hydrocarbons. It can't take massive amounts.
