I have an 86 GT with new front end parts and one round of coil taken out of the springs. The steering however is still very loose and the power steering pump whines as you turn the wheels with out any car movement. Can you update the steering pump/rack and pinion to a newer model or is there an aftermarket fix for this?

You probably need to rebuild or replace the pump, and replace the tie rod ends. this will probably solve your problems.
