I have a '99 Contour V6 2.5 Automatic which had a leaking tranny pump cover, which is a round recessed cup held closed by a snap ring. This is located on the bottom of the trans. pan. Took it to a Ford dealer today to replace the o-ring. Picked it up, drove approx 8 miles and suddenly the trans froze up. Looked in the rear view mirror to see a trail of transmission fluid. Needless to say, the garage did not check the installation of the snap ring. Had the car towed by flatbed to the dealer. My question is: What should I expect from the dealer: 1. A rebuild transmission, or 2. An attempted repair of the existing unit. I would expect the cluch plates would be burned and perhaps warped. I am to pick up the car early next week and want to be prepared if perhaps a new transmission is not their solution. Or do you feel that replacing the missing parts that fell out, and refill with new fluid would be proper. Thanks if advance with any light you can shine on this problem
