For a while now I have heard an intermittent noise , possibly in the engine compartment, tends to begin after making a turn. Any suggestions, or steps to try to determine where or what the cause could be.

You'll need to supply more info for anyone to try and help you with possible cause .What year , model , engine , mileage ? Is it there after making turn , only after doing so .? what side , engine , suspension etc . etc . You jacked it up and checked for any excessive movement / wear at wheels ? Checked wheel bearings , driveshafts ?
