This 1949 Ford Ute is an Australian-built two-door coupe utility that was refurbished and converted to left-hand drive under previous ownership. It is finished in Candy Cinnamon Pearl over a cream vinyl interior and is powered by a 350ci GM V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes an Edelbrock carburetor, power-assisted steering and brakes, a wood slat bed, a Flowmaster dual exhaust, air conditioning, a push-button radio with an FM receiver, and a CD changer. This Ute is now offered by me, the current owner's son in law, with a clean Illinois title. The VIN plate is currently missing from the underbody but can be replaced with a new, period-correct re-creation prior to sale.
The body was repainted in its current shade of Candy Cinnamon Pearl under prior ownership. Features include chrome bumpers, a “bullet nose” front grille, a hood ornament, and dual exhaust outlets. Taillights from a 1949 Lincoln have been retrofitted, and the bed features wood slats and polished runners. The center driving light utilizes a 6-volt bulb but is not hooked up.
Body-colored 15” steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and Ford-branded hubcaps and are mounted with 215/70 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. A full-size spare is located in the bed. The truck has been fitted with a later-model GM subframe with power steering.
The cabin was converted to left-hand drive under previous ownership and features a bench seat trimmed in cream vinyl upholstery along with matching door panels and brown carpeting. Appointments include a replacement body-colored dash, a Vintage Air HVAC system, a stereo with an FM receiver, and a CD changer mounted in the cargo area behind the seats.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer with inset gauges for temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and battery level. The five-digit odometer shows 4k miles, though true mileage is unknown.
The 350ci General Motors V8 was installed under prior ownership and is fitted with Cadillac valve covers, a Cadillac air cleaner, and an Edelbrock carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and a GM 10-bolt rear end.
A Flowmaster dual exhaust system has been added, and a photo of the underbody is provided.
